I have heard many good things about pcmforless, but I was checking out madz28, and there tuning is $50 cheaper. What are the differences her? Do both custom tune to your specs? Does one do a better job than the other? If they are the same, Im deffinitely doing madz28. Any testimonials? Opinions?

Both have good track records and will stand by their work (a search will bear that out). Ion gets the nod from me.

Never tried madZ, but I can definatly vouch for PCM's for less. They are the best IMO, and wouldn't go elsewhere.

You never tried madz28. Probably never tried anybody but pcmforless. But you're able to judge that pcmforless is the best.

Actually I have tried over 4 different tuners, and been around the tuning thing for the last 8 years, so just because I haven't tried madz28, and I now stand firm in my decision to stay with PCM's for less doesn't mean that I don't know anyone else other than PCM's for less.

Lol, but the comparison was to Madz, who you have never tried. So, logically, you cannot say pcmforless is the best.

This thread is titled "PCMforless or madz28", and what we knew about either with testamonials.

I NEVER said PCM's for less was specifically better than Madz. I said I prefer PCM's for less over anything else I have come by, and that Madz was not one of the others.

Lol, again. I don't understand your logic. You did say pcmforless was the best (even though you had not tried Madz). I guess now we understand that you mean pcmforless is the best of those you have tried. (though it appears by the thread title that it was started to compare pcmforless and Madz only)

And on the opening comment, he asked for opinions and testimonies. Sheesh! :irk:

It would be one thing if I was bashing MadZ here without trying him, but I'm not. I'm just saying what I've been saying from the beggining, that I like PCM's for less the best out of who all I've had tuning experiences with. Which were more than four other major tuners, NOT INCLUDING MADZ.

If this still isn't clear to everyone, then I just give up! :bang:

thanks guys. What im really trying to learn is if I should spend $50 more for pcmforless, than madz28, b/c those seem to be the most used tuners around here. seem to be a lot of good reviews for pcmforless. havent read many good or bad reviews for madz28, but b/c of shoebox's rep. in the fbody world, im definitely going to take his recommendation into consideration. Im pretty sure im going with madz28. simply b/c its cheaper.

As already noted, both tuners have a good reputation for the work they do. I ended up going with Ion because he is cheaper and he happens to live close by me. His customer service was good, the PCM was tuned and shipped quickly, and the results were very good. And yes, he can tailor the tune to your specs. He has a form on his site that allows you to check off what you want done.

+1 for that
Ive heard good things about both companies so whichever one suits you and your needs best (location and turnaround time for you) would be IMO the best way to go.

I used Madz and He fixed all the tuning problems I had. I used the LT1 edit method with him. So he just sent me a file and I loaded it in the car myself. Worked out great. Don't have no complaints here. John

I have been waiting for Bryan to correct my tune for a week. After his tune it pings badly and I hate the shift points. I have the email option and he stated that changes can be made in a day. How long should I wait before I start bugging him.....is this a 'normal' amount of time to wait for a tune? Also jus a quick 'premium gas' question. I elected to go with the 'I plan on running premium' option. What do you guys consider premium? Is 91 octane premium enough for this option?

First off, if the fix could be done via email, and he said "a day" and it has been a 7 day week, then I would give him a call just to see what is up. I'm sure if he is later than he told you he would be bothered by it.

As for the premium question, IMO 93 is ideally the best premium to get. Some pumps out there only offer up to 92 octane, and then a few others just 91 octane. Your car was designed from the factory to run off of 93. I'm sure there have been some out there running 91-92 with no noticeable problems. However, my Z was tuned on 93, and there's no way I would ever risk detonation by running anything less than 93. I have witnessed a buddy of mine with just bolt ons running 91 octane and it ran like crap (pinging)! After a tanks worth of 93, it went away. Sunoco a lot of the times sells 94 octane. This also would work. Better to go an octane or two over than an octane or two under.

I have owned this car since it was new and religiously have run 93 until a year ago when they stopped offering it at ANY gas station in my area. Any recommendations on a good fuel additive/octane booster?

 That sucks! Well, the only octane booster I know of that works excellent, raises your octane level way over 100, and was really expensive, and I wouldn't reccomend to you for what seems to be a mild street car (correct me if I am wrong).

Honestly, I would include this question to Bryan when you talk with him. He may even be able to give you a tune to compensate for this, or advice for which road to go down for your situation.

You are correct. This is just a mild street car. I told Bryan that 91 is as high as I can get at the pump. I'm sure when he gets around to it, this will be corrected.....when he gets around to it. It doesn't matter right now anyways. There is 3" of snow and ice that fell in the last 2 days here. I do not drive the Z in the snow. Thanks for your input!

Here in NJ we haven't had any snow this winter yet. It's actually making me mad because I put my Z away for winter storage back in September in a garage back in Indiana where I used to live (USAF, stationed in NJ). And since it has been put away, I have had nothing but day after day of mild to nice wheather I could have driven it in!!!:bang:

Bryan is a great guy, I have used him for years on more than a couple tunes. I am sure he will take care of you.

I have a very hard car to tune (590 RWHP LT1 D1SC with the stock 1 bar MAP sensor ECU all on pump gas!), and Bryan from PCM's did an outstanding job.

Even though I have not dealth with MADZ, I am sure he still does a good job as well. (As most people here are stating)

Down here in the OKC area several of the Sinclair stations have 93 octane. Have you checked the Sinclair stations there in Stillwater? Most people agree the octane boosters are a waste of money.

Last year I fried out my PCM during a tune due to voltage drop. I noticed that Ion was only about 20 min away, so I shot him an email and asked him if he could fix the computer. He said sure, I just droped it off with him. I went to get something to eat, picked it up 30min later, and he even put my tune back in for me. Really helped out on short notice.

I have done all my tuning myself, but after my cam swap this winter, I think I might have pay Ion $75 to give me a good initial tune Then take it to the dyno to make fine adjustments.
