if you have the factory hurst in the SS you really only need a short stick. the factory hurst is a decent unit...not quite Pro-5.0 but it's pretty solid. the short stick makes the shifter really nice. been on my car for 5yrs and don't regret it at all.

I just saw the Pro 5.0 with the short stick in a "all in one" package on Afterthoughtauto.com ??? Would you recommend that?

I purchased it from ebay from one of the dealers on there. I actually only paid about $166 for it.

I think it really want you wan to do. Teke is right about the hurst being a good shifter. But I just wanted to try out all the shifters. I just sold my Ripper which was a good shifter but wanted to try out the Pro Shifter and I like it. But really all of them are great, the short stick really matters though.

The stock Hurst is OK, but it had no positive stops and doesn't slide into gears like the 5.0.
Scof, you can cut a few threads off the 5.0 stick and have a short stick. No need to buy another. Mine was done when I got it since it was used.

if you already have the hurst from the factory...look for the small knob with H on the top...than i dont think the money is well spent. for $50 you can put a lou's shortstick on it and have a great shifter.
if you have the crappy base model shifter...the upgrade is worth it. the pro5.0 is considered by most to be the best shifter. so beyond that, its just what you're willing to spend.
usually you can find factory hurst shifters that people have removed for CHEAP. i paid $50 for mine shipped.
so the shifter plus the stick cost 1/2 what the pro5.0 costs alone.
personally i've only driven one car with the 5.0...and didn't like it. that was going from my hurst/short stick. the shifter seemed "stiff" and hard to move between gears. it was precise..but i had trouble shifting fast. most likely it just needed to have the springs loosened and for me to get use to it.
another side note:
i measured the shift throw on my crappy stock shifter/stick and 1-2 was about 8"
but with the hurst model and the lou's short stick it went down to 3.5" from 1st to 2nd.
i can now shift with my wrist...not my whole arm.
