Front mount intercooler on LT1 Z28-dimensions?

I have found an intercooler with the following dimensions...
Dimensions - 23" wide (31" with endtanks), 11.75" tall, 3" thick

Have any of you installed an intercooler of this size in a LT1 equipped '93 thru '97 Z28 without hacking up (or minimal hacking up) of the nose area of the car?
THanks!

I had a reply from another forum member stating that he had to notch some of the bumper support and it worked fine.
I don't suppose any of you have any pictures of the cutting..?

Thanks!

What exactly do you mean hacking to the nose area? There are several options here: bumper cover, bumper itself, poly bumper, the light bar, lower bumper cover and radiator support. When I installed mine (same dimensions as yours, but four inches thick), I cut out the lower bumper cover support. I suspect you might be able to fit the intercooler without doing this, but it would be a PITA in general. With a three inch intercooler, you shouldn't have to remove the steel bumper (but indeed the plastic behind the cover).

Dave, here is an unfinished pic, but you can see how much bumper support needs to be removed to get the intercooler to fit in. Its an easy job:

There are pics on page 2 of my cardomain site. I left the main support in place and just cut a hole in it for airflow. I used two L brackets to hang it off the front bumper. Tight fit on a Trans Am.:)

#1. That thing (I.C.) looks HUGE on your car. Is it the same size as the one I specified?

#2. What is this?

#3. Where did you get the piping for the cold side and what is it made of? Mild Steel? Aluminum? Unobtaineum? :)
THanks guys!

1. It is a 4x31x12 with 3" inlet and outlet. Same size as most on here.

2. That is a Silencer for the mondo valve so its not so loud

3. Universal 3" Piping Kit on Ebay. Aluminum. You'll need 2 or 3 additional 90's.:)

I bought my pipes from Red Dog Motorsports and they were the same company that sold the intercooler. I found the company on Ebay and it turned out to be a local guy so I ended up purchasing the 32x12x4 intercooler for $140 plus another $75 for the 3 inch aluminum pipes, couplers, and t-bolt clamps.

When I last delt with them they said that they were getting out of the intercooler market for a while.

Here is my FMIC setup. I had to mount mine a tad different as the IC was getting in the way of the air dam. Instead of mounting to the top of bumper beam I cut it off completely and mounted the IC to the bottom of the plastic headlight assembly piece. Plastic is pretty strong and I mounted the bottom part of the IC to the radiator. It's firm and no sagging has taken place nor will it even w/ the added weight of 3qt's of oil from the accusump. It ain't the prettiest but it works! LOL........:D
