I had a local shop rebuild my tranny. It had a wierd vibration 2-3 shift and then went away. The tranny starting slipping into 4th gear and finally the tranny went out after a month. He blamed it on me, saying I was hard on it. Anyway, he rebuild it again. The same vibration is there but this time it won't go away and only does it near half throttle or more when it shifts into 3rd. Basically when it shifts into third at 40mph. It I do 1/4 throttle or less and it shifts sooner - no problem. The strange thing if it does it bad enough it will kick the ABS INOP on. Is it my rearend causing this problem with a bad wheel bearing or the torque converter? Again the new rebuild has less then a 1000 miles on it.

95 camaro with 94 lt1 and tranny swap. Posi 3.23

Well I do not beleave that you could have been to hard on it causing it to die and apparently frie the 3-4 clutch set in such a short time . The vibration is most likley a repeat of what happened before and if the 3-4 clutch chattering
(slipping again) Im not sure about the abs inop light I would have it scanned and see what code it is setting ,
let us know if we can be of any help

Could be clutch chatter or severly worn bushings.

As for your builders excuse about you being too hard on it??? We build them strong enough for you to beat the holy hell out of.

mine did this right before it went out, but even after the rebuild it is still hesitant to shift to 3rd, only with very low throttle as mentioned

The chatter/vibration did it both times the first day I got the car back. The first rebuild it seem to do it just as bad or worse on light throttle and then the chatter went mostly away.

I'm taking the car into the shop either today or tomorrow and see what he says. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks

Yes let us know what they say , Im curious and if by chance the 3-4 clutch is frying again have them check for wear inside the pump stator

Here is an update long past due.
I got my car out of storage a couple of weeks ago. The vibration got worse and my 2nd gear started shaking bad. My 4th gear finally went out. My tranny toast again twice in less then 6000 miles. I decided to put a jasper tranny in and while I was at it, I had the rearend completely rebuilt with 3.42 gears and new posi. I know I should have went 3.73 but my speedo was off and I calculated that the 3.42 gears would put it back on track. I was right. The posi was a little loose. He also used amsoil. ok $2900 dollars later the car is more solid that it has been in a long time. The jasper tranny is giving way more lower end torque then the rebuilt tranny. 2nd to 3rd shift is a little smoother then I would like. I like firmer shifts. Now I just don't trust local tranny shops. Apparently jasper has modified the tranny to elimate the 2nd and 4th gear chatter and some other slipping issues. Aluminum pistons (whatever that means) and redesign sun shield. I hated to eat the money from the rebuild and not use the warranty but I couldn't keep having a crappy tranny.

sorry for long post.
