Problem with Oil Pressure ever since S-trim install.
Problem with Oil Pressure ever since S-trim install.
Hello,
Ever since I installed my S-trim on my 96 T/A, when the engine is hot and I've been sitting still (like, in traffic) at an idle, my oil pressure will suddenly drop from 8# to nothing. (Past zero, the needle falls down as if I had just shut off the car). The Check Engine light comes on, but I've never had any trouble or other indication the pressure is actually dropping. -If I rev it to about 950/1000 RPM, it snaps back up to 8-10# and stays there until I let up.
Is there a way I can tell if I'm really loosing pressure, or if it's just the gauge? Also, any idea's what the problem is and how to fix it? The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with the blower stealing the oil before the pressure gauge reads it? For now, (I.E., last 6-ish years) I've simply set the Idle RPM to 950 to avoid the problem. I suppose the problem COULD have nothing to do with the blower. . . but I've NEVER had any trouble with it until right after installing the blower. . .
Thanks,
-Justin

mechanical gauge can verify your actual oil pressure, and rule out the gauge/sending unit.
