pink68 11-18-2002, 11:35 AM Sold on Hoosier QT Pros!!!
Well, I took off the 28 x 12.50 ET Streets and put on Hoosier's version and the difference was night and day for my car. Before the switch a typical motor run would produce the following:
60ft: 1.643
1/8 ET: 6.97
1/8th MPH: 102
1/4 ET: 10.79
1/4 MPH: 131.67
After I used the Hoosiers I got the following:
60ft: 1.536
1/8 ET 6.789
1/8 MPH: 107.37
1/4 ET: 10.606
1/4 MPH: 130.79
Needless to say, I am happy! The 68 is a 433cid big block with a turbo 400/gear vendor tranny and weighs 3710 (with me in it, 224lbs). I do take the AC belt off before the runs as I shift at 7000 and go through the traps at 7200. I drive the car 27 miles one way to the track and back home again. I used 10.5lbs of pressure in the Streets and the Hoosiers and both had tubes.
This week, nitrous!!

89ProchargedROC 11-18-2002, 04:30 PM umm....did you let out before you crossed the line?
you gained 5mph in the 1/8 but lost 1mph in the 1/4?
chevyguy3 11-18-2002, 05:10 PM how much use had the et streets that you had on there before seen? how old were they?
i dont have a preference either way (had Et streets and Et drags last year, have QTPs on the car now), i just like to see fair comparisons to get an idea of what is working best for certain cars
Jason Short 11-18-2002, 05:54 PM Those 1/8 vs. 1/4 mile mph look a little wacked as said before.

Sax1031 11-18-2002, 11:25 PM I have never tried the Hoosiers. I use the MT ET Drags. I know for me changing from the et streets to the et drags was night and day for my car. My dad was able to run 12.10s on et streets and then when we changed to drags, with improved 60ft times(went from 1.7s to 1.5s), he was able to run some 11.9s. With nitrous the et streets would spin into second and spin on the shift into third. Not a fun ride. With the et drags their is no spin even with the nitrous.
pink68 11-18-2002, 11:58 PM I did let out some before the end but not so much that I would think a bunch of mph was lost. Any thoughts? I was at the track Friday just to work on the 60 foot times with the new tires and not to beat the motor up. On Saturday I was racing in the COTT (Titan) series race (True Street) at RCR and was trying not to beat up the car by being stupid. Seems to happen to me sometimes, being stupid that is :(. Its not the top mph that makes me happy with the QT tires but the tenth drop in the 60. I am using Cal Tracs leaf springs and Big A Auto $9 shocks in the back and have been fighting to get a better launch... I took out the drag spring front end about two months ago and replaced it with non-drag springs for a better street ride quality.
I went through a bunch of time slips over the past two months and an average set is pretty much with 60 foots about 1.64 to 1.69, 1/8th ETs from 6.9xx to 7.0xx with the mph from 100.xx to 101.xx etc and the quarter ETs from 10.80s at 128.xx. I recently made some changes in tuning on the lash adjustment and spark plug gap and the mph on the top end has been consistently over 131.xx mph. This past Friday I put on the new tires and went to the track just to get some short runs in with them before the races on Saturday. The ET streets had about 50 runs and 800 street miles on them and I didnt want to be disqualified on the True Street inspection although they still had a small bit of rubber left "over" the wear indicator bars.

Pro Stock John 11-19-2002, 10:42 AM 107mph at the 1/8th is that a typo?
You have the potential to run low 10's no problem.
I wonder if your ET Streets were worn out.
I have switched back and forth and think that ET Streets are pretty darn good... I think the Hoosiers are a softer compound and can hook a bit better but wear out like twice as fast.
I went 1.51 on 26" ET Streets, and so far 1.49 on 28" Hoosier slicks. I will be on 28x12.5x15 ET Streets next year and think that 1.45's will happen.
Sax1031 11-19-2002, 01:53 PM Raptor1- I think Pro Stock John was talking about the two runs on the very first post of this thread. On the 6.97 run he went 102 and on the 6.789 run he went 107. I am just trying to clear that up. I think Pro Stock John is wondering how he ran 107 mph on a 6.789 run.
Pro Stock John 11-19-2002, 01:59 PM Maybe the 107 is a typo and should be 101.x mph...
pink68 11-19-2002, 05:24 PM The 1/8th ET was 6.789 and the 1/8th mph was 107.37. On another note, I talked to another friend of mine who brought something up which I am looking into. My battery seems to discharge itself in mere hours sometimes and the motor was popping somewhat on the top end starting some just after 800feet or so and I feathered the throttle a little. I did look at the fuel gauge but didnt see any appreciable pressure drop at that time. Its his feeling that the motor is getting fuel starved and this may have contributed to the decline in mph, anyone have an answer? I took the battery to get checked at Interstate and it is definately not holding a charge, tomorrow I take the alternator in to get it checked...

Pro Stock John 11-19-2002, 05:39 PM I'd play with aspects of your suspension too, or look at the quality of the prep at your local track...
I have raced on a bunch of different tracks, and I think that an auto tranny car, with good suspension, and enuff converter should be able to hook mid 1.4's on slicks with like 15psi in them or more.
I have no doubt that new tires helped you out but if you went from worn, hard ET Streets to brand new slicks it could be part of the difference. I had a set of MH's that were like a hundred years old and I went 1.61-1.64 in them irrespective of how much air I ran, I tried 11, 15, and 18 psi and the 60's that day were all 1.63/1.64's. Any run in the 1.55-1.65 range for me has wheelspin... 1.53-1.55 is minimal wheelspin but there is some.
Best track I ever raced at was No Problem Raceway in BR Louisiana and the track hooked like nothing I am used to. I bet I could go low 1.4's down there next time... off the footbrake.
Example of a 1.49...

Sax1031 11-19-2002, 06:58 PM Very nice pictures Pro Stock John.
On nitrous my car launches like that, but on motor it pulls the tires up a bit less than that.
I agree about the tire deal. It is hard to compare old worn tires to new tires. But I would say it could get some 1.4 60ft times too, on a good track.
I live in South Carolina and the best 60fts I run at darlington are 1.64s-1.65s on motor. They built a new track in Elgin,SC about 2 miles from my house. And I can get 1.57s-1.58s out their.
Rockingham is also a good track, they keep it well prepped.
Pro Stock John 11-20-2002, 10:15 AM My point is that low 1.6's for me are indicative of crappy track conditions, old slicks, not enuff tire.. etc.
Also to me running 12 psi is compensating for track conditions or lack of traction, I would run 15-16psi at least and set up the car based on that. I find that 1 to 2 clicks on the rear QA1 shocks really makes a difference, I will go as stiff as I can go in back but that has typically been like 4/4 (1-12, 12 full hard). I think if I am at a track where I can go 6/6 in the rear I am gonna cut some low 1.4's.
Sax1031 11-20-2002, 12:40 PM Raptor1- The track in elgin is off of number 1 before you come to lugoff. You will pass the Davis Disposal Company and then the next road after that disposal company is the one for the track. Their will be a sign that says Midlands Raceway. I just got a newsletter from them saying the winter hours are as follows- Saturdays 1pm-6pm and Sundays- 2pm-6pm. The address is
835 Whitehead Road
Lugoff,SC
(803)438-5995
The bad thing about it is that you have to go about a 1/2 mile down a dirt road to get to it. It is 1/8 mile racing. The mph on the timeslips is way off though. From my timeslips from Darlington and from elgin, the elgin slips say I am running about 6 mph faster than the ones at darlington.
