Chevycobb 11-29-2006, 09:40 PM Don't want to keep this in the podcast forum.
In the podcast Chris and Jason mentioned something about Recaro being rumored to get the bid on the making the seats. As far as I know and what was said in that podcast they made the seats for the cobalt ss and the GTO. Does anyone else have any information on this, or know of any rumors revolving around this?
And if you have not heard the podcast, then you may follow the ling in my sig to listen! :thumb: :D
Evilfrog 12-12-2006, 12:00 PM Recaro did make the seats for cobalts with the G35 package. Which was the seats and LSD for the supercharged engines. Though it is believed that the Recaro seats will not be adviable for the cobalt SS in 08 due to problems with Recaro meeting the Demains for the seats. (you know, that could also be because they are making them for other cars...::wink wink nodge nodge:::)

These are the ones in the cobies.
OctaneZ28 12-12-2006, 02:34 PM Interesting.
I would be ok with Recaro making the seats.
BUT please leave off the RECARO embroidery!!!

yeah no kidding. but they do look real comfortable and not cheap looking either. Probably last a lot longer too...stupid side bolster
Heatmaker 12-13-2006, 08:01 AM Considering Recarro's reputation in the car industry seeing thier logo brings quaility, but they should offer a sport seat option for guys who want a more racier look. Like the seats they offered for the Evo and Cobra-R series. But I doubt that will happen. Anything is good as long as you don't open the doors and see a low budet version of the vette interior... It's time for the Camaro to move out the house, and step away from the Corvette Theme. I think F-bodies are all grown up now.
2000GTP 12-13-2006, 02:18 PM It would definitely be nice to see them make the seats. Not only do they have a very high quality appearance, but those seats are extremely comfortable.
georgejetson 12-13-2006, 09:41 PM I recall reading elsewhere that an insider confirmed Recaros for at least some versions of Camaro. Johnson Controls is doing the interiors (Johnson is the USA supplier of Recaros).
Chevycobb 12-13-2006, 10:03 PM as long as they reinforce that side bolster some how  always annoys me
sandles 01-09-2007, 05:15 PM Yes the seats are going to be recaro, well sort of. As I said somewhere before, Johnson Controls are doing the seats for the Camaro, Johnson Controls have rights to build recaro for N/A, soooooo, they will be recaro/johnson controls seats without the recaro embroidery. Therefore they will look like recaro in every way only they are not, but they are. Clear as mud right!
2000GTP 01-09-2007, 05:47 PM Cool. Where did you find out this tidbit of info from?

All versions.

Umm i thought recaro was the north american supplier of recaro seats? theyre located right around the block from my parents house...not to mention, i used to work there:wink:
as far as I know, these are Johnson seats...
2lane69 01-10-2007, 10:04 AM I've owned four cars with Recaros from the factory, and all I can say is that it's about time GM got their head pulled out of their @ss and put some decent seats in a car. I've owned/own a lot of GM's, and every single one of them has had crappy seats...with the exception of my Vette, but they weren't exactly what I would call outstanding.
Recaro makes the best seats in the business, without question.
FWIW, the B6/7 Audi S4 has 'Recaro' emblazoned on the seat...so that's pretty good company to keep....it's not like people would associate that with some APC seats in a ricer. ;)
Chevycobb 01-10-2007, 02:03 PM I always thought johnson and recaro were pretty much the same thing

Yes you are right, they are johnson seats. Back in like 96/97 JCI and Recaro formed a joint venture company to colaborate on technology and also gave JCI the exclusive right to produce Recaro seats for cars in N/A. I believe that Recaro is now themselves again in N/A but only do small programs. Because of the agreement, JCI now have tools/methods to build Recaros if you will. So they look like Recaros and may be built the same as recaos (process/style) but they will technically be Johnson seats.
I thought it was somewhere here i read about GM stepping up and paying for better seats and not just taking the lowest bid (Lear). They did take the lowest bid. Lear was more. So they might be getting better seats and for less.
PaintBallR 01-12-2007, 06:25 PM If the seats are anything like the Colbalt, They are going to be hard on you butt and back. I drove a SS Colbalt and I was not impressed with the seats. My 3rd Gen has way better seats than that. There's not enough butt padding, the seats are very stiff. GM we need soft seats for the late night crusin, we also need a seat that will huge us as we take a corner at 60.
No.1 ..... make it so.
Deutsch 01-13-2007, 12:10 AM I've driven a B6 S4 which has Recaro's as std. equipment. Drove it pretty aggressively and I stayed glued, I never felt fatigued. My only concern is if they'll keep the old school GM belt buckles.:thumb:

yeah I dont know about the buckle, but where it buckles into the seat I do like and hope they keep.
Brangeta 01-17-2007, 04:22 AM (In response to the cobalt interior pic on page 1) I'll die if the new Camaro is a combination of leather and cloth YUCK. I hope it's all leather and doesn't advertise who made the seats. CAMARO embroidery might look nice, but in all honesty, embroidery sucks, it just makes the seat less comfortable.

I feel just the opposite. I'd rather have seats that are cloth w/ leather trim. Leather seating surfaces are freezing in the winter and scorching hot in the summer. Needless to say I don't care for leather at all.
I agree I wouldn't want it advertised who made the seats. Though having 'Camaro', 'Z28', 'SS', or 'RS' embroidered into the seatback would be nice.
Brangeta 01-17-2007, 12:28 PM I have no problem in the 4th gen with all leather since the windshield is a big portion of the cockpit--just use a windshield sun blocker and it keeps the sun out. The new Camaro has bigger side windows than windshield so it would probably be harder to keep cool in Summer.
JCS30TH 03-16-2007, 12:16 PM cool. but please, power rake adjustment
D James 03-18-2007, 05:19 AM Extra cushining is a must, my current 01 TA is a little rough on the butt with long drives, I usually sit on a pillow if I have to drive thousands of miles, otherwise they aren't to bad around town.
Is there any news if the seats will be powered or not? personally I can't stand powered seats, they just take way to long-this is something that should be an option.
90 Z28SS 03-19-2007, 01:14 AM . Johnson Controls is doing the interiors (Johnson is the USA supplier of Recaros).
Hmm , my company makes stuff for Johnson controls :)
That would be VERY nice if Recaro made the seats for the Camaro . After 50K miles in my 05 Cobalt SS , the Recaro's ...imo , are just perfection . I LOVE them . The Recaro's in the 02-current Audi S4's and RS4's are even better, that version would probably be more comparable to what would end up in the Camaro .
Ebony leather , with silver/black houndstooth centers would HOT HOT :)

I can deal with power seats not being fast. The range of control over your seating position is more than enough to make up for it.
How fast do you really need to change position anyway? It only takes a few seconds on power seats with maybe a minute at most to go thru every way it moves.
