Cup holders are one thing I hated about my 94 Z228 and loved about my 2000 SS. There needs to be at least 1 for each seat not counting the doors. They are handy for my than just cups (cell phone, wallet, etc..) I hate driving cars with crappy or no cup holders.
OctaneZ28 11-28-2006, 01:33 PM I agree, but too many is also bad.
One for each seat is sufficient.
And none in the way of the shifter please. :)
2000GTP 11-28-2006, 02:59 PM With alot of the GM cars, I think cupholders is something that has been drastically overlooked. My Grand Prix for example... the cupholders are a complete joke.
Sparkz28ss 11-28-2006, 05:03 PM One big one..... right in the way of the shifter...thats all
moroso99 11-28-2006, 09:55 PM yeah definite cupholders for each seat, my friend has a 94z with 1 cupholder, whenever we go to mcdonalds i always have to hold my huge cup in my lap, or when we park it has to go on the center console.
miaminick 11-28-2006, 10:46 PM lol. I wouldnt call it a cupholder on 93-97's
Klypto 11-28-2006, 10:57 PM 98+ are fine... i used the one that folds out the most... the huge anoying one behind the shifter if need to
Rob V 11-28-2006, 11:47 PM You mean 97 and up :p They redid the console that year before the exterior facelift. I use the folding one in my 97 the most too, since having anything larger than my cell phone in the shifter cupholder gets in the way.
johnd651 11-29-2006, 07:20 PM hey i gotta say ...cupholders in the right spot...but only like 2...and then a center console of sorts
SCNGENNFTHGEN 11-30-2006, 12:44 AM I agree, but too many is also bad.
One for each seat is sufficient.
And none in the way of the shifter please. :)
Yup, sounds about right!
blackrat 11-30-2006, 11:29 AM didnt the trans am have like 5 cupholders? why?
93-96 manual transmission Camaros had one of the worst cup holder setups ever.
In a 2+2 car rear cup holders in the location of the 97-02 Camaro are perfect.
guionM 11-30-2006, 05:36 PM 98+ are fine... i used the one that folds out the most... the huge anoying one behind the shifter if need to
That thing behind the shifter is a cupholder??
I've been using it to hold my sunflower seeds. ;)
Yossarian14 11-30-2006, 08:04 PM What they need to do have the bottom of the center console lid be a cupholder for those it the back so all you have to do is flip it over. Then do a dual cupholder/ashtray combo that pulls out of the dash with some strong spring arms to hold the drink in place. Maybe one behind the shifter just for cellphones, wallets, etc.

yeah ...sounds good....but i dont know about u guys...but ashtray optional type thing....theres not gonna be smoking in mine....ruining that perfect interior
PaintBallR 12-04-2006, 12:29 AM Yes please, cup holders would be great to have. It sucks driving a 6 speed with no cup holder.
skibbez93z 12-18-2006, 09:18 PM One big one..... right in the way of the shifter...thats all
hahahahaha!!!!!! i seriously started laughing pretty hard at that one! other people in the house were wondering what i was laughing at! well done spark, well done....
Bayer-Z28 01-20-2007, 07:02 PM One big one..... right in the way of the shifter...thats all
I remember when the mustang changed the body style in 99 or whatever. I cought an epesode of Car & Driver TV... The Mustang put the cup holder in such a spot to where the shifter hit it going into 3rd and 5th.....
In the 4th gen, you can't use the center console holder... If you want to drive. It's good for change and small pieces of gum..
-Revise the way the drinks are held at the bottom... That damn wire on my flip out holder is going to be the cause for spilling my coffee one of these days..
Although, I am happy because my 85 Firebird had NO cup holders at all!! Hot coffee crotch SUX!!
TKH_Z28 02-13-2007, 05:58 PM I swaped my center out to a 02 and now i have one for each seat. But i agree there could be some change in this issue but im not going to hold the fact that there is not enough cup holders in a car to be a reason for me not to like it orn buy it

1stGenNut 02-22-2007, 01:57 AM Hell with cup holders. Its a sports car not a ****ing lexus. I don't like that steering wheel or the gauges. Noones ever going to eat or drink in MY car, thats what restaurants are for. You like coffee? Finish it at home I say. heh. I don't think I'll be buying one with the possible upgrades I'd rather do to my Camaro, they are pretty cool though.
maro z28 02-24-2007, 05:49 PM I dip, so I need a least 2 cupholders. I second the "more cupholders notion" especially if its a dd.
94badrag 02-26-2007, 03:10 PM Cupholders? next you'll want it hold your BigMac so you can eat, drive, talk on the cell, and jerk off all at once.
hoosafudge 03-02-2007, 12:48 AM I hate camaro cup holders. I had a 2000 SS and the cup holder was in the way of the shifter. I now have a 94 z and that cup holder is a huge joke as well. I mean, have any of you found a drink size that will actually fit in the holder without falling over when you hit the brakes. I hit the brakes in my car the other night and my coke ended up all in my center console and all in my shift plate. yeah, that will never happen again.......speaking of which, any of you know where i can get an ebony shift plate?

I hope you're joking.

Yeah, that about sums up this thread :D
justav6iswear 03-05-2007, 02:18 PM ^^^^ HAHAHAHA PERFECT SUMMARY! I like the German approach. No cup holders so maybe you will pay attention to the road instead of your F*%#@*# McDonalds. YOU COULD LOSE A FEW POUNDS AMERICA, WAIT TILL YOU GET HOME.

The cup holders in the 97-02 Firebirds are perfect IMO. The one behind the shifter is far enough down and back that an aluminum can fits perfectly in it, and the bottom has a circular ring designed to "lego" with standard cans. :)
The swing out holder in front of the radio is easily stored and opened, blends in nice with the consol when closed... though I wish the rubber retention "edges" were stiffer or maybe spring-loaded. The folding bottom / metal bar for the holder seriously needs to be rubber coated though... its metal vibrates on empty cans that are being held.
The door "holders" are really just storage spots for can shaped objects, though I've used them for unopened beverages on several occations.
I dig the later 4th gen cup holders... but the earlier ones were pretty ineffective.
Steve in Seattle 03-07-2007, 05:31 PM Hell with cup holders. Its a sports car not a ****ing lexus.
Now that you mention it... I'd like heated/chilled cup holders in the center console, and heated seats as an option. :)
Jim the Nomad 03-07-2007, 07:07 PM I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the amount of cup holders is much less important than the location and functionality of the cupholders they do include.
I tend to lean towards the "no cupholder" argument, but that would just make the car that much less marketable.
SSRich 03-07-2007, 07:29 PM Now that you mention it... I'd like heated/chilled cup holders in the center console, and heated seats as an option. :)
That would be cool i just like to see 4 cupholders. Just build them in the dash like a ashtray so you can pull them out and put the other 2 in the back of the console.

That's how I'd like to see them. That way they're unobtrusive when you don't need them. Just make sure they're the kind that can expand or shrink to accomodate various size drinks.
Heated and cooled would be nice, but I don't think the pull out kind could be.

If there were no cupholders, where would everyone put their morning coffee? (Or occasional Hot Chocolate in my case since coffee is nasty.)
That, and I (and I'm sure most people) like to have a beverage for trips that are over 20 minutes or so.
Yeah, no cupholders would seriously make it less attractive to most people.
SSRich 03-07-2007, 08:33 PM Maybe if they put the pull out cupholders right at the air and heat vent in the dash

I agree, this car needs to be built as a daily driver since the majority of people will use it as such. Heated and cooled i can certainly do without, but it has to have some kind of cup holders.
97z28/m6 03-07-2007, 10:26 PM i like the monaro ones.
RussStang 03-17-2007, 04:06 AM Maybe they should stick one of the cup holders in front of the ancillary gauges. Its not like they are going to be that useful in the lower console anyway.
5thgen69camaro 03-17-2007, 04:52 PM Heated and cooled would be nice, but I don't think the pull out kind could be.
you serious???
EllwynX 03-17-2007, 07:42 PM you serious???
About which part? Heated and Cooled cupholders being a nice option or that pullout cupholders probably couldn't be heated and cooled??
5thgen69camaro 03-17-2007, 08:44 PM Heated and Cooled cupholders being a nice option
This part. I dont know, sounds kinda expensive. A thermal cup could practically keep your coffee hot all day for free if you were worried. You can get an Ice cold soda, Sport drink, or water at any gas station or, convience store. Just doesnt seem like it would be worth it...
91BigRedz28 03-20-2007, 09:06 AM My '91 didn't have any cupholders, let alone heated and cooled. It actually served me well. It taught me not to eat/drink in my car. A spot for a cell phone would be nice, but I could live without cupholders. Plus, we all have that clumsy friend, well call him Mr. Upholstery Ruiner..."oh hey can i take this strawberry shake?"..."sorry man, no cupholders."

Well, if you stop and get a 20oz Coke, and have a ride that's 30 mins to an hour it gets warm unless you drink it fast. I'm not concerned with the heated part really. Cooled would be nice imo though.
Honestly, I'm not THAT concerned about cooled either. If it's not there I don't care that much. But it is a nice convenience if it can be done for little $.
RussStang 03-20-2007, 02:43 PM Heated and cooled cupholders are an indulgence in excess that the Camaro in no way needs. The R&D money spent on that could be spent on about a billion other things that are far more important on the car.

I highly doubt that if they were to develop heated and cooled cup holders that it would be exclusive to the Camaro. I would think they would spread the costs across as many product lines as possible, which would mean the cost would be rather minimal. Plus, don't they already have heated and cooled cup holders on the Caddys and Buicks? So really there would be next to no new development costs....
With that said, I do not want heated or cooled cup holders in my 5th gen.... but if there is a market for them, then make them an option.
OMGWTFBBQ 03-31-2007, 02:42 PM 93-96 guys:
An auto has no problem.
95HellBird 04-01-2007, 09:16 PM think F-bodies have insufficient cupholders you should drive an Audi  my 04 has terrible placement.
WestCoast96Z28 09-15-2007, 12:08 AM Wait..how many cup holders do the LS1 Camaros have...one for each seat? Where do you have the room to put them....in the armrest next to the speakers for the rear seats?
My 96s got 1 cup holder and I'm being generous...that shallow rubber crater is not exactly what I call a cup holder. Nothing fits in that damn thing. And if it did fit, I still have to hold the cup when I'm driving. Well, I take turns hard, but driving an auto with those "cup holders"...feels like I'm grabbing onto the shifter and downshifting, but I'm not..I'm just keeping my drink from spilling.
I do like the design how the rubber part comes out of the plastic part...easier to clean the soda that just spilled it in, because the cup tipped. :)
For 5th gen...I only ask for 1 cup holder, but make it DEEP. Come 'on, we drive these cars like maniacs, it should keep a cup in there tight around high speed turns.

LOL I want only 2 cupholders. One for me and one for my passenger. I don't care about the rear seats, no one should be drinking back there anyway.
My '02 had 2 cupholders up front. The 2nd one swiveled out of the bottom of the center stack on passenger side.
Dragoneye 09-15-2007, 08:03 PM I'd be a nice feature...and as the Vette manages to have some, I'm sure there'll be at least 2.
It doesn't effect me either way, though...Nobody will be eating/drinking/gumchewing/smoking in my Car. Nobody with metal-studded belts will not be granted access, and no chains.
I'm not too protective, am I?;)

I detail. And I can tell you, EVERY SINGE ONE of the cars with holders in the doors.....had spills.
