removal of catsSpeedDemon02SS 11-19-2006, 10:15 PM does anyone make a pipe to fit the stock placement of the cats? I am looking for something to bolt to the stock exhaust manifold and line up to theh y-pipe so i can remove the cats. MeanGreen97Z 11-19-2006, 10:59 PM You can get an SLP off road y pipe for a little over 130$. SpeedDemon02SS 11-20-2006, 08:16 AM that is if i already have headers. i am talking about the stock manifold. i will be getting headers later. MeanGreen97Z 11-20-2006, 11:27 AM No... they make an off road y pipe for stock manifolds.... SpeedDemon02SS 11-20-2006, 11:44 AM oh, cool. i will check that out. thanks. teke184 11-20-2006, 10:47 PM man if you're planning on headers later...why waste the money??? the cats are probably costing you 5hp or so...is that worth a $200 orp setup?? specially if you plan to upgrade in a year or so?? CamaroRacing12 11-20-2006, 10:55 PM man if you're planning on headers later...why waste the money??? the cats are probably costing you 5hp or so...is that worth a $200 orp setup?? specially if you plan to upgrade in a year or so?? +1 on that! SpeedDemon02SS 11-20-2006, 11:47 PM no, i agree. it was worth it if i could get some makeshift pipes to fit for 50 bux. but for 200 and a massive headache...im just gonna wait for the headers. though, i still havent decided on them. i really like the kooks because of the clearance, but i cant afford them. i have heard good things about the pacesetters and they are in my price. so we will see...i still want to talk to more people first. also, im not looking forward to that instal... teke184 11-21-2006, 07:39 AM page 11 on the cardomain site in my signature...it really isn't that hard. it just takes time due to space constraints. i'd never done a header swap before, all by myself taking my time i did it in 10hrs SpeedDemon02SS 11-21-2006, 09:08 AM thats not bad. if i could get it done in a weekend, id be happy. what headers did you go with? music35126 12-20-2006, 06:45 PM hell, i used a pry bar and a hammer and gutted mine SpeedDemon02SS 12-20-2006, 09:02 PM you gotta be carefull doing that. if you gouge the insides too bad then you can create a stall point. all you want to do is remove the screens. im just gonna do LT's and ditch the cats. music35126 12-21-2006, 05:45 PM i was curious also, if i were to get shorty headers and not put cats on there, how would that compare to longtube, and how much of a power loss SpeedDemon02SS 12-21-2006, 05:58 PM shorties arnt that much better over stock. cats cost you about 5hp on any application (stock, shorites, or LT's). IMO, shorties are a waste of money, unless you live in Cali and are trying to pass emissions. music35126 12-21-2006, 06:28 PM so having shorties and no cats isnt really doing anything more than me having gutted cats. ok thanks SpeedDemon02SS 12-21-2006, 09:04 PM no, you'll probably pick up 10 or 15 hp that way. from what i have heard/seen, gutted cats dont really do too much. but my feeling is that you are spending the money and doing the work, why not do LT's with no cats and pick up 40hp. 2000GTP 12-22-2006, 03:42 PM From what I've heard, the LS1 manifolds flow pretty well compared to aftermarket shorty headers so the gains will not be huge between the two. As mentioned above, throw some long tubes on there and you will see some nice results at the rear wheels. SpeedDemon02SS 12-22-2006, 03:46 PM i cant wait to do my headers this summer. havent decided which brand to use. really like the kooks, but they are effing expesive. and i have heard good things about the pacesetters. they arnt so bad. 2000GTP 12-22-2006, 04:01 PM i cant wait to do my headers this summer. havent decided which brand to use. really like the kooks, but they are effing expesive. and i have heard good things about the pacesetters. they arnt so bad. I helped install a set on my buddies LS1 and they are a pretty good set of headers. Fitment was good and he was happy with the better sound and power gains. The coating on my Pacesetters has already began to rust in certain spots though, but for what I paid for them, I can't complain too much about it. SpeedDemon02SS 12-23-2006, 07:34 AM alot just depends on what I can afford at the time. a set of coated kooks is almost 1500 vs coated pacesetters for 800. which ones had better clearance? | ||
