I drive a 1982 camaro and I have been killing myself trying to find the answer to this question. I have been trying to figure out wether or not a corvette ZR1 or C5 rim would fit my car, If not how would I get them to fit. I dont want to do somthing cheep like buying the spacer conversion like you can find on ebay if at all possible. I would rather change the front hub to a newer style front hub if that would fix it.

you just need to find the right backspacing/offset to fit in the wheel wells.
someone will chime in with what works on a 3rd gen....
maybe check the vendors, see what they list under "wheels/tires" for a 3rd gen

You need a spacer, and it doesn't have to be a "cheap" one from eBay. Skulte Performance make very high quality adapters. You are aware that some 3rd Gens came with spacers from the factory?
