deputydough 11-10-2006, 10:32 PM ok, long story short. tried to weld on SFC's and caught fuel line on fire. just enough to put pin hole in it. scary moment for a few minutes. i can see where there is a connection under the car. but, where it goes up the fender does it go all the way to the engine or is there a connection somewhere hiding? how difficult is it to swap out? is the connection under the car the same as the "quick connect" fitting near the fuel rail? thanks for all help.
shoebox 11-10-2006, 10:42 PM It's one piece from under the front seat to the intake fuel rail.
You are lucky your car did not burn to the ground. I have seen pictures of ones that have from doing the very same thing.
deputydough 11-11-2006, 09:51 AM your right shoebox. god was definately taking care of the idiots. haha. i guess i will remove the fuel line and then weld. i guess the line just feeds through with minimum:rolleyes: effort, right?
RE AND CHERYL 11-11-2006, 10:04 AM Just an idea. But if the line is only damaged in one spot , you could cut ou the damaged area (only an inch or so I assume) and install a compression fitting of the correct size to connect the lines back together.
I use them in air ride systems all the time and the lines are simular.
Re'
deputydough 11-11-2006, 02:09 PM i wondered if i could just repair the area. it is a plastic feeling hose. right now it has a piece of intertube with a hose clamp. it is not leaking but i dont know how long it will hold. re and cheryl, you say you can cut the hose and place a comperssion fitting? ill look into that. not real crazy about replacing the entire line. thanks for the idea.
shoebox 11-11-2006, 03:37 PM Repairing the damaged nylon hose is not recommended by the service manual. A potential leak in an air line is a little different than a fuel line. ;)
deputydough 11-11-2006, 11:55 PM gotcha shoebox:thumb: going to dealer monday. i assume you can buy just one line and not have to buy all 3 as a set. they seem to be different sizes.
shoebox 11-12-2006, 12:08 AM No, they come as a set. They are not too expensive.
Projectz28 11-12-2006, 05:46 AM Its not woth repairing it. I damaged mine once by accident while I was working on my car. The entire piece from the connectors under the car to the engine was only $70. That was 3 years ago, but I bet its still under $100 for the whole thing.
shoebox 11-12-2006, 08:48 AM $70?
Even now, they only list for $26.99 and wholesale is $16.00. Maybe that was $70 installed?
Projectz28 11-12-2006, 10:25 AM Are we talking about the same part here? I'm talking about both supply, return and EVAP hard plastic lines from the motor, into the wheel well and down to the connector under the car.
Its also possible I got ripped by my local dealer;) I was in dire need of them and that was the best price I could negotiate at the time :(. I didnt know how a dealer worked back then and i probably could have gotten it cheaper but I didnt think it was under $30!!! man did I ever get raped...
Dave89IROC 11-12-2006, 10:45 AM $70?

Might depend on the model year vehicle. Mine was $70 or $80 bucks, but my car is a 1993 model year (where GM did everything slightly different from all the other model year LT1s...)

Dave89IROC 11-12-2006, 01:33 PM what? $70 or $25?
