06 Z06 on DR's: 10.85 @ 129.5 mph

Don't think this was posted, did a search for Z06 and didn't see it.

Ranger from the Vetteforums ran 10.85 @ 129.5 in a Z on DR's

On my first pass of the day, after an hour-long cool-down and change of rear tires to the BFGs, I ran a clean pass with the type of launch and 1-2 shift I’ve been looking for. Here are the splits:

60'........1.679 3650 launch rpm with a fast clutch release and fast throttle squeeze
330'......4.625
660'......7.046 102.61
1000'.....9.114
1320'...10.856 129.50

Density altitude at the time of the pass was negative 850 feet on my TAG weather station. Air temperature was 51 degrees. Barometer was excellent and humidity was low.

Track surface temperature was 60 degrees, kissed sweetly by full sun.

That track is 30 mins from my house. That is a damn impressive time from that vette!

10.85 on drag radials doesn't really surprise me. It's an awesome time, but I was expecting someone to hit high 10's with good tires on an otherwise-stock Z06.

That said, 129.50?! That's a HUGE improvement over the trap speeds I've seen so far. Then again, you can't really ask for a better DA.

What's the current best time on that GT500 that was first to run a 10.xxx a while back?

Oh yeah, and repost! (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=483006)

If that time is corrected for sea level, that run is probably around a 11.0-11.1. Awesome times though.

When or why would a racetrack correct for sea level on a time slip? The timeslip is what you ran.

anyone know what size drag radials?

I think he meant the other way around. For instance, (some) car magazines correct for sea level when they publish acceleration times. I know Car and Driver does, and if they ran a 10.85 at -850 DA, they'd publish ~11.1 (or whatever the result of the correction comes out to).

They don't correct on time slips. They give you the da so you can correct it yourself. More times than not, it's people way above sea level wanting to correct their times to get a feel for how the car compares to everyone else's across the world. When your da is negative, you're running in conditions that are better than most. Hence, the correction. It's just like dyno pulls. They have SAE and STD to correct the hp/tq rating as if the pull was in perfect weather conditions. It puts everyone on a level playing field.

Who cares. The guy was probably more concerned about his elapsed time and taking his time to get the launch right.

So lemme get this straight. The GT500 gets this badass, DOHC, 4 valve, supercharged, intercooled, motor. The consortium over there with Evolution Motorsports, spends unkown dollars and hours, dyno tuning and track testing, and modding the heck out of it - and FINALLY get that 2 ton...erm...ponycar into the high 10's.

So this other guy simply drives up with his Z06, bolts up slicks to his bone stock, pushrod, normally aspirated smallblock....and does high 10's, as well.

Hmmmm....

There is no way in hell MIR is 800 feet above sea level. It is within 5 minutes of the Wicomico River, and 10 minutes if the Potomac. I am willing to beet there is no place in this county that is 800 fet above sea level since it is a penninsula.

Thats my home track..been there with the GTO already:)

Thats a very time time. I'm impressed with the 60ft and the 1/8 mile ET and speed 102mph yikes thats moving! What more can be said about 129mph trap speed. When you can get out of the hole like that and then let the car pull itself to a swift ET there is nothing likt it. Congrats!

I was wondering how long it was gonna take for the stock Z06's once the cool fall air hit . Thats awesome to hear . As intrusive as the torque management schedule is in the Z06 pcm ...congrats to Ranger , that pass took some major discipline and driving skill .

Almost a buck thirty ....can u imagine how fast these cars would be with simply removing the torque management from the PCM

How right you are my friend. Excess weight can very easily be overcome, by just adding more power. ;) [/sarcasm]

While the Z06 can be driven into the 10's.

*insert anti-mustang fact*
The GT500 was limited to 155mph not for safety reasons, but because in reality it can't go much faster (aerodynamics).

Weight has nothing to do with terminal velocity, just the amount of time it takes to get there. I'm pretty sure the Shelby could get close to or achieve the same speed, were it not for the speed limiter.
