anyone see that lexus commercial with auto parrallel parking???Klypto 11-05-2006, 02:31 AM wow... really good layout lol... but DAYAM haha, thats great... cory danno02SS 11-05-2006, 07:53 PM ???? ???? Sad to say but there is a market for such a thing. Prediction: Look for this option to be selected by women at a 7 to 3 ratio over men. Prediction 2: Look for a Lexus recall within a year after some moron tries to auto-parallel on an incline in icy conditions and subsequently wins their uber $$ whiplash law-suit. It's impossible to account for the human factor even in the most complex of failure modes analysis. That's primarily why we don't have cars driving themselves yet. Klypto 11-05-2006, 08:09 PM ???? ???? That's primarily why we don't have cars driving themselves yet. but going 2-5mph? i dont think you give technology enough credit... i dunno 2001NBMZ28 11-05-2006, 08:20 PM Saw the commercial, didn't think it could actually be real? Klypto 11-05-2006, 08:40 PM easily... i watch history/discovery all the time heh... like 3 yrs ago i saw how they already have the technology to put cars on the street hwy controlled my comps... but not public friendly/practical yet... can easily see them taming it/simular technology to go parallel... danno02SS 11-06-2006, 01:42 AM but going 2-5mph? i dont think you give technology enough credit... i dunno It's not the technology I have a problem with, it's the people using it. Even though parallel parking is a relatively easy task to automate, I'm pretty sure someone is going to find a way to defeat the fault protection in that system. Making something idiot proof is almost impossible. Case in point, I just got a new cell. Here is one of the warnings in the "use and care" instructions: "Don't try to dry your phone in a microwave oven" You know someone had to try that for the manufacturer to even mention it. You can't simulate how some people think. Klypto 11-06-2006, 02:25 AM You can't simulate how some people think. true... no matter how stupid you think people are, and you come up with everying... there is always someone that surpases pure stupidity heh.. but i still think its pimp cory Doug Harden 11-06-2006, 09:26 AM If you can't parallel park...cut up your driving license....you don't deserve it. This kind of thing is a liability lawyers dream. shock6906 11-06-2006, 09:43 AM I agree, it just goes to show that there are too many people out there that don't know how to drive. I think that retests should be mandatory at certain intervals. I know I won't have to take my driving test again in at least 10 years and it's already been 5 since I started. Not only that, if I don't let my license expire 10 years from now, I can just apply for a renewal online and I'll never have to step foot in the DMV. Who knows how bad my driving skills my have degraded in that amount of time. JG/70Z 11-06-2006, 10:08 AM It's not the technology I have a problem with, it's the people using it. People's brain seem to stop, soon as they turn a PC on. Caps94ZODG 11-06-2006, 04:38 PM If you can't parallel park...cut up your driving license....you don't deserve it. This kind of thing is a liability lawyers dream. sad thing is some states you dont even need to the city's are not set up for it... found that out right quick when I came home to Boston and was out of practice Iwas like WTF???? 2 years and I was having trouble parking like I used to..its funny how fast you forget to do womething if you havnt practiced it all the time.. jg95z28 11-06-2006, 04:42 PM I work for a transit agency that drives our trains entirely by computer. You need to give the technology a chance. trains are a little different. jg95z28 11-06-2006, 05:39 PM trains are a little different. True. However I'd be a little more concerned about a train barreling down on me at 80+ mph than a Lexus. Wouldn't you? :D shock6906 11-06-2006, 08:46 PM True. However I'd be a little more concerned about a train barreling down on me at 80+ mph than a Lexus. Wouldn't you? :D Yes, but a train is always going to be in a particular place...you don't have to worry about it veering off course and slamming into you unexpectedly. At least not usually, barring the occasional derailment. You would have to worry about the computer freaking out or the driver doing something stupid and putting that Lexus out in front of your car while you're driving by. flowmotion 11-06-2006, 09:47 PM First, how often does a Lexus LS driver get into a situation where they have to parallel park? They have valets for that that kind of thing. Second, apparently you need about six feet of clearance, which would make it pretty much useless around here. :p cjwilson99 11-07-2006, 11:14 AM Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity! Making something idiot proof is almost impossible. There is a reason parallel parking is on the road test to get your license. Z28Wilson 11-07-2006, 12:29 PM There was a review on this feature by a couple of automotive journalists....surprisingly enough they did not like it (it was developed by Lexus, thus my surprise). I think the complaint was that the system takes too long to set and can be aggravating to use. Good Ph.D 11-07-2006, 12:30 PM Its ridiculous to me. It would show the same technological innovations through history and then it would show a guy sitting in his suburban. He would then say " I remember when I used to have to parallel park". He would then pull into a regular parking space. Then the following words would pop up on the screen " Chevrolet F#@& Parallel parking" Seriously I don't remember the last time I parallel parked. Doug Harden 11-09-2006, 09:03 PM **** doesn't work....LOL! http://www.fquick.com/videos/viewvideo.php?id=520 CamaroBoy96Z28 11-09-2006, 09:34 PM Then the following words would pop up on the screen " Chevrolet F#@& Parallel parking" LOL thats funny. I dont trust any vehicle/computer parallel parking for me. I can do it perfectly well myself. Who parallel parks these days anyway? I've done it MAYBE once ever even though I've only had my license for 5 years. Neat feature and definitely way cool, but half useless. I'm sure 90% of the general public cant parallel park worth a $#!* anyway so I guess it cant hurt until the auto park system malfunctions. | ||
