97z28/m6 11-01-2006, 11:48 PM wonder what the price will be?
JG/70Z 11-01-2006, 11:59 PM Nothing released for price yet, but people are saying $25,000-$30,000. Turbo Inline 5.
96_Camaro_B4C 11-02-2006, 08:52 AM That center stack is still pretty lame looking. Car looks pretty sharp, though, at least from that angle.

Doesn't do anything for me. Maybe it's better in person?

2000GTP 11-02-2006, 01:59 PM Nicely designed car, nothing I would jump in line for though. Is this Volvos response to the Mini Cooper?

Mini and the Audi A3 I believe.
I think they're fanbase is the same as something like jeep's. Only a certain portion of people appreciate them.

Ford would completely own the compact market if the Euro Focus was here ....too bad it'd be priced more like Golf/GTI though .

Mazda 3 is on the same platform. I don;t see why it would be priced all that high, especially considering that they would be cheaper to produce because of the volume of the US market.
I just want an ST. In orange please.

I gotta admit, I like it.

Me too. It's definatley the most stand-outish feature of the exterior. I thought it was weird at first, but it grew on me quick.
Coolest Volvo in a looonnnng time. Probably since at least the 240.
ImportedRoomate 11-03-2006, 11:26 PM Maybe its because it reminds me so much of the Suzuki Aerio

Even though I hate Ford and the sport compact segment, I took a look at that article. Wow, Ford would definitely own the market with that thing. 236lbft of torque available from 1600 rpm? That is insane for a compact. They should definitely bring it over here, make for some good competition from the ricer crowd.

The base price is $30,000 though. I cant see many people paying $30,000 for a Focus.

The thing is, it wouldn't really cost that much over here. You can't just directly translate UK pricing the the US.

I read a article once in top gear where ford was asked why the much better euro focus wasnt in the US , and cost was one of the main reasons . They said it would cost too much for the Us market . A ST-3 which is comparable in options to a avaerage equipped GTI or Cobalt SS bases at $24K and some change in US dollars . I just ticked on a few options which translated to 23,000 euro's which = a bit over $29,000 in US funds .

True.
For example: GTI in UK goes for about 17,995-20,935 british pounds which translates to about $34,261-$39,858 American dollars. As we know, the American GTI costs nowhere near $35-40k. It costs more like $22,100.
Some other UK prices converted to American $$ for comparison. These cars do not cost this much here in the states.
Base 911 carrera - $110,254
Base M5 - $120,970
Base M6 - $155,762
Base c6 coupe - $88,759
Base CTS 3.6 - $56,940
You guys get the point...In reality, the Focus ST would be more around $19-20k to start here which would be inline with other compacts like the Cobalt SS, RSX, Si, SRT4. No way it'd be priced anywhere near $30k to start.
