It looks like the 2007 Tahoe police pkg. is a pretty impressive performer considering its an full-size SUV. The annual Michigan State Police test recently conducted tests on all 2007 model police pkg. and special service pkg. vehicles.
In acceleration and tests the 2007 Tahoe PPV faster than everything except for the Hemi powered Charger and Magnum, and topped out at 137 mph which was a higher top speed than the Hemi powered Magnum attained which was 131 mph.
In braking again the Tahoe PPV at 138 ft outbraked everything from 60 to 0 except for the Charger and Magnum which both took 132 ft to stop.

FS3800 10-31-2006, 08:29 PM this should make it a little easier to compare:

blackrat 10-31-2006, 08:42 PM why is the more aggresively geared ford slower in every acceleration comparo? the only thing it did better was getting around the track.
AdioSS 10-31-2006, 10:40 PM too bad Chevy won't offer the V8 with the impala's 9C1 package :(
A 6.0L in the Tahoe would be quite mean as well.
Do they have MPG figures too?

EXACTLY! Somethings way goofy there.
The 3.55's should have shaved time off the accel times if it did nothing else.
Maybe they had ASW tires on one and performance tires on the other?
Also wonder what happened with the Impala that gave it a "jump" between 80 and 100?
It was slower by .36 at 80, faster by .14 at 90, then way slower by .66 at 100?
Sloppy shift at the top end maybe? Hmmm...

Thats kinda funny. 5 seconds is a pretty big difference, but still, its a Charger vs a full size SUV.
Z284ever 11-01-2006, 11:41 AM Tahoe looks cool with those black steelies and aggressive rubber.
graham 11-01-2006, 12:01 PM Its a shame they couldnt get the V8 in the Impy :D
Caps94ZODG 11-01-2006, 11:15 PM that big white wrapper just begs for some police grafix..

These are the preliminary results from there testing in September, the full report isn't ready yet, which may shed some light on the odd #s. I always take there test results with a grain of salt, real world #s on these cars are always somewhat faster.
In years past the 3.55 has been around half a second faster than the 3.27 Interceptor. I really don't understand the 3.55 option, there is not much difference in the performance, and with the handicap of only topping out at 119 mph really negates the option. For the life of me I can't figure out why Ford won't equip a high speed balanced driveshaft so the 3.55 car can acheive a higher top speed, or further more why not drop a 3V 4.6 in it.
As far as acceleration on the Crown Vic vs the Impala, our '06 Impalas will pull away from the Crown Vic as the speeds get higher, and then at around 120-125 mph its like the Crown Vic stops accelerating, and the Impalas continue to pull away to around 140 mph.
number77 11-02-2006, 12:23 AM Why don't they offer the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 and the Trailblazer SS?

Price would be the main reason, most govt. agencies would not be able to afford them in quantities. For instance the Impala 9C1 is a little over $18K, the Ford Police Interceptor (Crown Vic) is a little over $21K under govt. contract price. I think the Tahoe PPV starts around $25-26K, which is around the same price as the Charger Police Pkg.
skorpion317 11-02-2006, 08:55 AM the Impala 9C1 is screaming for that 5.3L.

yea but a Trailblazer SS is no more expensive then a base tahoe... expecially if you removed all the leather and stuff that the trailblazer comes standard with...
Z28Wilson 11-02-2006, 04:10 PM This test really shows me one thing....
Won't it be nice when GM has an actual, proper, RWD sedan to offer police agencies again?
flowmotion 11-02-2006, 04:25 PM Why don't they offer the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 and the Trailblazer SS?
Well, I'm not really sure. But a few years ago Ford tested the Expedition with our local police, and that ended after they had a couple roll-overs. Probably a limited demand for SUVs for police work.
And I usually see the FWD Impala police cars on the more mellow surburban beats. Those customers probably aren't that interested in V8s.
skorpion317 11-02-2006, 04:49 PM for the suburban PD's, they don't need V8s because they (probably) won't be doing any high-speed chases.
Now, state troopers, on the other hand, usually need a little extra help on the highways and byways. I know New York State uses Camaro and Mustang interceptors.
I remember some small town in Virginia (with like 5 officers I think) had so many high-speed chases starting in their town that the PD asked for and got a black '05 GTO solely for those chases. That seems to be pretty rare, though.
305fan 11-02-2006, 08:54 PM I have an extremly hard time believing a 5.3L Tahoe can do 137mph:confused:

Under KY state contract price, we got our '06 Impala 9C1s for $18,105 and the '06 Ford PI price was $22K and change, for '07 the Impala has went up around $800 and Ford lowered the price of the PI $1,000
Eric Bryant 11-05-2006, 07:34 PM Why don't they offer the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 and the Trailblazer SS?
Durability. Police vehicles are a case study in engineering for worst-case situations, and there's little chance of a "factory hot rod" surviving the terribly harsh validation to which each manufacturer submits its vehicles.
Gripenfelter 11-06-2006, 10:59 AM And thats with the 5.3L V8. I wonder what it would do with the 400 hp V8.
