My g/f bought me an LS1 steering shaft to replace the LT1 shaft a couple weeks ago when I was looking for more clearance between headers and steering shaft. Well, I'm noticing that the steering is feeling somewhat loose which I believe is the rag joint showing its age (from what I've read and heard). So, since I have an LS1 shaft, which has no rag joint, I'd like to swap it in.
My question is how hard would this be? I read on another forum that an alignment would badly be needed, but am not sure why. Can anyone shed some light on this? Would it just be a front-end alignment (wheels) or something else? Thanks in advance everyone.

Someone is on crack. There is no reason that I can think of why you would have to align the car.

I did this because I had a LS1 suspension sitting around and needed one too. It just bolts up and nope your not gonna need an alignment

It's been a while but I think I remember someone saying it wouldn't line up right. The shaft would be 90* off, compared to the lt1.

I have read that the orientation is a tad different on the LS1 shaft and the steering wheel will be off center. It will not affect alignment. Maybe it will maybe it wont but you will need to turn tie-rods to re-center the wheel if if happens.
Being the OCD freak and reformed crackhead :D I am it drives me insane if my steering wheel is the slightest bit off center going down a straight road.

Thanks for the replies everyone. So, what would I need to do if I do this swap? Just pull the steering wheel off and change it? What about the internals for the steering column (SIR parts and such)?

I think it is a simple swap, nothing else needed.
I tried it it wont work the steering wheel will be 1/4 turn off and I was told an alignment wont fix it.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I have come to. I'm just going to sell it and get the eliminator from UE. Thanks guys for the help :)

No its the orientation difference inthe shafts, look at them very closely.
