Z284ever 10-29-2006, 10:23 AM The 2007 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab Z71 Plus is an off-road enthusiast’s dream interpretation of one of Chevrolet’s most popular trucks – the just right-sized Colorado crew cab. Keeping with the rugged Z71 image, the suspension has been fitted with HUMMER H3-derived components, front and rear. Custom-milled 20 x 9-inch alloy wheels are wrapped with aggressive 285/50R20 off-road tires. Underneath the restyled front fascia, hood and fenders is a powerful 320-horsepower 5.3L V-8. Fuel enters the Colorado via a unique, racing-style ITW spherically actuated fuel fill system. The cargo box bed and rear bumper were restyled and a roof rack/light bar was added. The custom paint job combines light green metallic, bright aluminum and light charcoal for a stunning high tech look. The leather interior is upscale yet durable.

Z284ever 10-29-2006, 10:29 AM not liking that front end.:(
Really? I like it a whole bunch better than the current front end.
97z28/m6 10-29-2006, 10:35 AM They sure fuglied that up, didn't they?
yes. yes they did.
91_z28_4me 10-29-2006, 11:00 AM 320-hp 5.3L V-8 with Hydra-Matic 4L65 transmission
A 4 speed really?
graham 10-29-2006, 11:35 AM Get that junk away from the powertrain! lol
guionM 10-29-2006, 01:34 PM I actually like it alot better than the current Colorado front.
Tackleberry 10-29-2006, 02:43 PM while i am a big fan of the current front end, I see this as an upgrade. It may be a bit over the top, so i completely understand some people hating.
97z28/m6 10-29-2006, 02:50 PM any changes to the inside?
2000GTP 10-29-2006, 03:33 PM The frontend is horrible, but I like the powertrain choice.
EllwynX 10-29-2006, 03:39 PM As I said over on GMInsidenews-
Enlarge the headlights slightly and it'd be perfect.
I love it's agressive look.
Ken S 10-29-2006, 05:17 PM yea, the front end needs some tweaking, especially the headlights, but I definantly like the direction they took with this show vehicle.
daddytrav 10-29-2006, 05:22 PM That truck looks horrible. I don't like the front end or the back. I just don't car for the "stylized" beds on trucks. The added power would be sweet though.
Good to see a V8 finally in a 4x4.
Front looks good to me.
toneloc12345 10-29-2006, 07:47 PM it looks cool from the back, but that hood is hideous, maybe if it actually curved down to the grill but D@MN :yuck:

reminds me of the uplander's nose.
JB'z 94 10-30-2006, 01:34 AM I think the front overall is ok, the headlights are a bit squinty.

toneloc12345 10-30-2006, 06:47 AM That colorado front end suddenly made the tundra grow on me a little bit....

It looks a LOT more like the Dodge Sidewinder concept to me.

I knew it looked familiar to me. Just imagine if GM sold that as a new SSR front end :D
OctaneZ28 10-30-2006, 04:32 PM 320hp 5.3L ....to later appear in a Colorado SS? (insert hope here)
nowandthen 10-31-2006, 12:14 PM If they build it, I will come! :D I almost wet myself when I saw it!
It is soooo much better than the current model. I love that front end! Don;t change a thing! That front end is similar in style to the WTCC Concept, which also drew divided opinions, either love it or hate it. Similar in that the horizontal bar through the grill looks to be more purposeful than on most of Chevy's cars.
I say restyle the Colorado to look like this or at least offer it as an apperance package.
I think the head lights are fine. The thing that still disturbs me about the current Colorado/Canyon is the placement of the headlights down low. Just looks wrong IMO.
The Canyon Concept of a few years ago also looked good, but they never built it. Don't remember what they called it. Lost the pictures of it when my hard drive crashed a while back. :(
JasonD 10-31-2006, 12:31 PM They build it, I will buy it. No question. That is exactly what I have been looking for.
AdioSS 10-31-2006, 02:12 PM I'm thinking about what all I've told myself that I would get different from my current Silverado and this truck is fitting so many of them.
I do question the tow capacity of this truck though. All the current configuation I5 powered Colorados are limited to 4000# towing. Would it be outrageous to see a 5.3L crew cab 4WD Colorado capable of pulling 5500-6000#?
The extra 80hp/100tq will be a nice increase :D I do hope they use the aluminum block with AFM and E85 capability along with the 6L80.

6000lbs. sounds reasonable. The funny thing is the H3 is rated at 4500lbs. and a reg cab 4x4 Colorado with the same powertrain is rated at 4000. Since the Colorado is 1000lbs. lighter than the H3 wouldn't you think it the real world it could out tow the H3 by that same amount? 5500lbs. The only thing different is 4.56 rear vs. 4.10

Remember though for ride/handling compromise GM put a suspension in that limits the towing to 4000. I bet if the Colorado/Canyon was upgraded to the H3 suspension it would leap up to at least 5000 (maybe more).
Interesting enough the SEMA vehicle contains H3 suspension pieces. I wonder if the production V8 will as well .
