It sounds like they are saying the 2009 will look like the original concept, and the 2012 will be the futuristic one based on the pics in the article.

I've read that the next Mustang is supposed to have 'hips', like the '70's. But I'm not sure if that is for the facelift, or the next entirely new model.

Oh come on now...that silver Mustang concept has no Mustang cues whatsoever....I'd bet even money it will look nothing like that....

Umm.... did you not see the silver horse in the grille....

Is it just me, or does the 2009 version (the red one) look sad and droopy? Does not look like an agressive muscle car... looks like it just saw the Camaro's taillights.

Oh it's obviously a Mustang because they put the horse in the grill...I could tell from a mile away. ;)

I kinda like the look of the 2012 Mustang. Although Im quite sure its just a photochopped camaro concept :)

Magazines trying to report future cars are laughable at this point. They've been wrong about 90% of the time (remember the countless mags that said NO NEW CAMARO only a few months before this years NAIAS?)

I still think this site along with a few others is the best source for future auto news, not some rag....

is it my imagination, or does that mag cover one look almost exactly like the concept mustang from when it was redesigned to the current model? Same hood, same front fascia......

6 months to complete redesign project.....woke up the morning it was due...nothing done....crap! Uh, I know...I'll turn in the concept picture!

Boss: You came up with this in 6 months?
Designer: uh, yeah. yeah i did.
Boss: .......BRILLIANT! This is going on the cover of R&T! Keep up the good work!

The rendition may be more of what Motor Trend thinks so they may have just taken the current Mustang and molded in the concept Mustang, sharpen it up a bit and they have a striking cover car.

But as a lot of people mention that this cover Mustang rendition looks quite a bit like the concpet Mustang does bring up a interesting point. How do you update retro styled vehicles like the Mustang. Whats next for these types of cars.

The same way you update every other car, a nip here and a tuck there. There is no rule retro cars have to follow the original model development or anything else.

Well yea thats the simplified answer. But if you look at some iconic vehicles, Mini Cooper, VW Bug and PT Cruiser they all have to almost be re-invented because their design is their identity. The Mustang although retro this time could in essence go with another new design on its next generation because its been so many styles for so long.

Article is complete horse crap...

They are all photoshopped pics...
and they are off completely on their years.
MY2010 is the reskin
2009 is the same as before... 2012... is .. like the 2010...

And yes they did use the Camaro concept to photoshop for the '12
and they did horrible jobs at it....

I expect nothing less from R&T, actually anything favorable about the Camaro in that rag, would surprise me. The car will have hips! I seem to recall mentioning quite a while back, that this was precisely where they blew it on the current Mustang. They could make the next one look just like the Camaro, it'll still be missing the awesome GM powerplant. No thanks. R&T blows!
