Crazy? or Brilliant?

Here's an idea. Since we are two years away from the Camaro, how about GM put up on the website a color poll. And offer a BIG pallet of colors and let people vote on colors. That would give GM plenty of time to nail down the right colors for the Camaro. That way we aren't stuck with bland Silver or Blah (metalic tan, mucus, champainge color that is on every other frikken car produced now days.) I WANT COLOR. What do you guys think about that? Scott? you listening??

If people would just stop buying those colors, it would take care of its' self. I wonder about peoples taste sometimes.

i think Pontiac did something like that for the Vibe, so it's not impossible. i remember they had a contest to name the colors and i think they had a poll of which was your favorite, but i could be wrong on that last part. either way, i think it's a cool idea and a good way to get your consumers involved :D

Problem is, how do you target your poll to the right people, silver and bland metallic tans are so common because people buy them which must mean they like them.

The color choices on GM cars haven't been bad the past few years. The vette colors are always good, as were the choices for GTO.

I agree that the colors as of late haven't been too bad and I am glad to see GM break out of the traditional color mold like they have with the vette. The problem I can see with the aformentioned color pallet is that I personally have a really hard time determining what color looks good on a car if I can't actually see the car in person with that particular color. When my wife and I bought the Civic recently I think we had agreed on this bluish/sliverish color. When we went in to look at the cars we changed our minds very fast.... it looked HORRIBLE in person. Maybe I am just retarded that way.....

They could have a large picture of a Camaro that changes colors as you run through the pallet. At least you would have an idea. You are not commited to buying the color, but it would give GM some idea of what color people want on a muscle car. I know there will be Silver and Blah colored Camaros, but why can't there be REAL COLORS too? I bought a new Dodge Daytona in Torred Red a couple of months ago. This color is amazing. Not the burgendy crap, it's a real bright red. And I get the most attention in that car than any other car I've ever owned with the exception of my 68 Firebird convertible I used to own. Color matters. When you see a sea of silver and blah colored cars, a real bright color is a refreshing change.

I think it would be a good idea. Afterall, GM wants this car to sell well this time around and they want the public's input on how to make this car sell well.

Except the "black" had better be BLACK. Not that "I wish I was really black" Onyx Black that my '02 got on it . I mean, if/when the car is wet, it looks not bad. But when it's dry, and in direct sunlight, the car has a "brownish" hue to it!? :irk: It's like it's a "dull" black?!

I also like the idea of more BOLD COLOR . And say we get LeMans Blue, but that shouldn't mean we can't get Navy Blue Metallic (or something like that) as well ;). A couple variations of a color isn't a bad thing.

I sometimes think that the reason all cars are the same ~3 colors nowadays is because not many people ORDER their car anymore? You show up at the dealership, and take what you get. That's why people need to THEN go and "personalize" their cars, because they all look so damn alike .

FACTORY stripe packages would be nice too :thumb:.

Here here !! I had GM's "pseudo black" on my SS as well as on my Vette, and you described it perfectly !! It has begun to bother me so much, that I have pretty much decided to plan on a new paint job in the next couple of years. I even had a shop detail the Vette, and it still didn't look as good as other black cars on the road.

Hey, why do you care? Almost all the cars on your sig is black!

Just kidding...:D

I think Capn Pete hits it on the nail. We need to see 'em in person (didn't we say this on a a similar thread? Someone had an idea of "choose your color" when ordering a car? Then we pretty much said we need to see it in person...)

Or are we just suggesting to GM what colors we'd like (colors that are already on current GM cars, like the LeMans blue for the Vette?).

PS - My NBM also has a purplish hue to it...and it's always hand washed and zaino'd since brand new...I didn't know the black wasn't really black

Errr. No I'm not.

My first Camaro was hugger orange:

My current Camaros are green, blue and gold:

I just want something different than current or previous. And silver with white stripes kind of appeals to me at this point. :p

While we are brainstorming, I'd like to be able to format how they space the stripes on this conceptual website. I have seen some aftermarket striping jobs on some mustangs and camaros where the stripes are way too close together. Even though a monitor with adjusted tint/contrast won't truly reflect a car's true color, it would at least give you a ballpark idea of the base color/stripe scheme. You can never really tell if colors are going to look well together on the car just because they are complementary colors. I like the color scheme and spacing of the stripes on jg95z28 's blue camaro, especially with that hood.

That was me. (can you tell I want to have a say in what color Camaro I get?) But with price objections brought up in that other thread, I figured out an alternate plan. This way, the only expense to GM is the website. And for the record, the concept looks awesome in silver. I'm just tired of 90% of the cars I see on the road (that are 5 years old or less) are either silver or "blah". And the other 10% are watered down metalic shades of what could be considered a color. (in a black and white world) Since GM is reaching back to it's heritage for inspiration for the Camaro, SSR, HHR, why not reach back to the color pallet as well? Chrysler is and I like that. Sublime Green and Plum Crazy Purple are coming out this year. (although the sublime green is questionable to it's resemblance to the origional)

6" apart is the proper spacing to look right :thumb:. Even 5" apart is ok, but anything less and it's getting too close. 6" is ideal though . The width of the stripes depends on the line that they follow down the hood / top of the fender. Also, they must be PARALLEL, unless they are following the line of a hood scoop (or wrapping around it) like the '02 Collector's Edition SS's had.

"Bland" Silver will be the most popular color on the new Camaro. I guarantee. There's a reason that the concept was silver. That color is the most popular color out there right now, and the fact that the concept had it will make it even more popular for the first year or two. I want the Concept in my driveway, color and all!!!

Plus I want it to match my posters. :D

I remember how upset the new Mustang crowd was when the silver color of the concept car wasn't available the first year. I wonder if GM would do the same? I hope not, it's a nice color on that car.

On a related note, a good friend of mine DID have his Z06 repainted this summer to a true black (ala Mercedes), versus the dark brown that was on it before.

I hope the red is a good one like my old '90 Vette's Flame Red, or the Torch Red they used, or my Mom's '90 RS which is bright red.

I kinda want a bright red one, but I think the styling lends itself to metallics better, IMHO. Guess I'll have to wait and see what comes down the pipe....

It would be brilliant for GM to make such a move. Ford put up a color selector before the GT-500 came out.
I'm all for the Dark Purple.

I like the following colors. I would use the more tradional split stripes.

I think Royal Plum or Purple Haze would be nice. I found these pics, might need to see twin stripes instead of one.
