i was thinking about this today after reading some stuff and with cars in the 500hp range and 11 second area should they have some kind of limitation on them? i was thinking would it be neat to have 2 sets of keys for the car one that would allow you to reach the full potential of the car and another one say limiting the car to around 275 hp and a max speed of 70 or something similar to that. this way you could feel better about leaving it at a shop or something like that or if god for bid you have to let the wife take it.

That is a pretty unique idea. I wouldn't be so affraid of leaving my car in someone else's hands if that were possible. Another idea, going back to an AFM switch, would be an option allowing the owner to "lock" the car in 4-cylinder mode.

AKA the "Daddy Key". ZR-1s had them. I believe that it shut down half of the injectors.

I don't see a need for it, honestly. If you don't trust who you are giving the car to, you shouldn't give the car to them. Just my opinion.

Its not a bad idea, but nothing GM would swing for. As an alternative, you could always throw in an MSD box and install a 3000rpm pill for the max rpm. That will keep the boys at the shop from having fun with your car.:)

true but some time you dont always find you self in a situation where you decided who gets to touch your car. my corvette broke down when we were on vacation and i had to leave it at a shop i dont think they did any thing but bring it in the shop and back out.

but look at what happend to the guy with the tb ss he took it to the dealer and it had 31 miles more then he brought it there with who knows what that they did to it.

it was just a thought any way some times the things that seem like great ideas really arent lol

Doesn't a valet key do that?

Yes the infamous "valet" key.

Actually if the Camaro is going to have AFM, you could probably easily program a third key that permanently set the car in 4 cylinder mode. :D

Just un-plug 1 bank of coils or injectors ;). Actually, you could get "fancy" and have a switch for one of the banks! :D Confuse the heck out of somebody who knew better, but didn't know how you actually neutered the car!

the new bmw M5's have a system like that. its in the on board computer system. to unlock the full 500hp you go into the menu and select performance mode. the car has the DOD street mode that cuts power dramatically and increases mileage for cruising.

DOD all the Time gives you very very bad idle
The BWM phases the Cam (i think)
The ZR1 locks 1/2 (it's a 32 vavel engine) of the intake Vavels

On the C6 isn't valet mode limited to like 35mph?

That wouldn't be ideal for a wife to get around town in.

Yeah... I saw this in a recent report on the the new M6. It cuts the power down to 400 HP from the full 500 HP.
