Bill'sWS6 10-17-2006, 09:02 PM I was just wondering if anyone was going to hit Test And Tune at Milan tomorrow night?
I wonder how busy it will be?
Hope to see some people there.

Hey Chris,
I know your phone is dead I was trying to call you, LOL.
MAN, it was more packed than I have ever seen it on a Wed. I had 6 cars in front of me just to Tech in.
I only got two runs in..... It took me about 45 mins to get the first run in. Launched nice about 3/4 throtte and got a 1.66 60'. Pulled hard thru 1-2nd and then...... Bammmmmmmm I hit the 2-3 shift and it wouldn'd go. I lifted on it and put the gas back down still hitting the limiter then shifted. How about a 12.3 at 107MPH.
Second run a car had dumped oil on the starting line and not sure but doesn't seem as if it was cleaned up well. I got no traction and hit a 1.9 60' and a 12.5.
My 1/8 mph was like 81MPH.
I need a new tranny bad! I need to find one quick. Any ideas for me?
I left you a message at work....... I want to get it in and done ASAP. just trying to find a new trans to buy. Not sure where or what type.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks... You are lucky you didn't go last night. Would have been a waste of your time.
Bill
jeepbeast 10-20-2006, 01:19 AM yeah, i know what'cha mean. i was there, i was in the black z with enkei's and limo tint. too damn crowded but it seemed like the line was hooking pretty good though (for milan standards). would have liked to meet a few more of us f body guys there (mustang heaven).
did you happen to see that full sized blue van running low 10's? that van kicked major a**.

I saw your car, sharp looking. You pulled next to me on the second run of the night. I agree, the first time I was up it hooked great. I was pissed after sitting for an hour plus for the second run. Then to just have the tires spin up made me really ticked off.
What times did you run?

WHIPLASH 10-20-2006, 09:31 AM Bill, this is the company I think I'm going with for my trans rebuild. Fair pricing too. That 2-3 shift sucks ass. I hate it. I might go to Milan on the 28th with Chris. Depending on the weather.

jeepbeast 10-20-2006, 11:27 AM yeah. i only got 5 runs that night. i bet people were out for the last time of the season, me being one of them. put her up in storage for the heads/cam build.
i was just able to match my best time (13.3 @102). if i could just get that damn 60 foot down, i could only get a 2.0. i guess that is about all you can expect on street tires.
triumph 10-20-2006, 05:34 PM Bill,
Things are going good!Work is steady and the house keeps me busy as well. Do you have an installer for the trans swap? I would like to see what your car will run without any issues.I know dennis's car pulls REALLY hard from what i got to see last year on the short ride chris took me on.Man that thing is wicked. Steven

What have you been up to? What is the status of your car?
Are you going to try to make it to next Saturday morning at Milan? Al said he was going to come down if the weather is okay. Of course you probably already knew that.

Hey Steven,
Glad to hear things are going well. I hear the same thing about Dennis's car. After he gets things buttoned up that thing should be a blast.
I am going to have Chris install the trans at the shop. This way I can be back on the road right away. The car feels a ton stronger than it did. Even with the MT ET Streets at 18 Lbs and heated up no probalems baking the tires first, second and into third (when it would shift into third). I have never had this much Tq. I love the way it pulls off the line. I think I should now see the 11's ( I HOPE!). I ran a 12.3 @ 107 mph with a 1.66 60' last Wednesday. I am not sure how much time I lost from the 2-3 shift problem. It was banging the limiter, I lifted off the gas, back on the gas and hitting the limiter again then shifted. My 1/8 mile was only 81 MPH. With my stock rear and 3:23s I ran the 1/8 at 89mph.
I have been trying to figure out with my setup (3:89 gears and a 1.66 60') at what point am I at on the track when the car tries to shift 2-3? I was paying to much attention to trying to get the car to shift to notice. I would think it would have to be around 1/2 track. Any idea on how to figure that one out? That would help me to figure out how much time I was losing (Rough Estimate).

rod442 10-21-2006, 11:35 AM yeah, Ill be at the track sat weather permitting. might run the mustang, or maybe not.
the birds still on hold for the motor swap; after the 1st of the year, is my guess when Ill get to start on it. no real rush, since i need a few things and dont have the free $$ to buy car parts ATM.
It does however still haul the mail. set a new best on nitto's at M11. 11.37 at 132 on a 1.84 60'. Turbo's LOOOVVEEEE cold air. I bet I woulda run a 10.9x with an et street that day; but I didn't feel like bringing them.
Hope to see that this is pretty much the last puzzle piece to get you where it should be. and I look forward to seeing your car make some passes, if you can get it done.
TTYL, Rod.
jp2002ls1 10-21-2006, 03:15 PM Hey Bill,
Your 1/8 mile mph is low because your 2-3 shift is before the 1/8th.
For instance if you are running a true 28" tire with 3.89 gears and shifting at 6500rpm then you can only go 86mph in second gear. If you are running a 26" tire with 3.89 gears and shifting at 6500rpm then you can only go 79.8mph in second gear. I see that you ran a 81mph speed in the 1/8th, if your rev limiter is set for 6700rpm then that means you were still in second and probably having trouble shifting to 3rd before the 1/8th which would slow you down a lot. Get your tranny fixed and I'm sure you will gain a lot of speed. You should be trapping much higher speeds than what your doing.

I just went out and measured my tires. They measure 24 3/4 from the ground to the top of the tire. Can you figure out what my max in 2nd gear is shifting at 6600?
Thanks For Your Help!

That is very cool, thanks. Looks like 78 Mph is max for me.
Hope the weather holds and you can make it. It would be nice to have a last cahnce at the track withuot HUGE lines.

What is the actual tire size on your tires? Give us the metric tire size and I'll calculate the diameter in inches, which is closer than measuring them when the car is sitting still. When your actually accelerating hard the diameter of the tire is approx. an inch larger than when you measure it with the weight of the car on it and sitting still. Either way you need to get that trans fixed. When I rebuilt the 700R4 I had extensive work on the valve body beyond just a transgo shift kit and I picked up 2 tenths just from the rebuild and very firm shifts even with the same stall converter.

I went out to the MT website and took the information off there:
My tires are: 26X11.50-17LT
I am going to get a better trans in the spring. I picked up a rebuilt 4L60e with upgraded clutch packs for now. I hope this is the piece of the puzzle I need.
Thanks,
Bill
