Okay so after class I get out to my car and crank the key. Nothing... I put it out of drive and then put it back in drive (automatic) and it starts up. However, my security light was on nearly the whole way home from class. After allowing 10-15 mins and being assured the engine was up to it's operating temperature (185, I have a 160* stat and PCM tunning) I got on it and it did hesitate a bit when i put it down but it didn't feel to be cutting out on the top end (which I hear is a surefire diagnosis of a bad opti) Sometime shortly after that my security light went off.

I parked the car at my house and then turned it off. I waited 30 secs and put they key in, security light is now flashing, car won't start. Try puting it out park and back in park, nothing. Neutral, nothing.

I went outside just now (~30-60 min later) and it started right up with no Security / Check Engine, etc. (I cleaned the pelets on the key using a eraser, don't know if that helped)

I've read multiple threads on "Security Light" so I know it's VATS related.

Should I be concerned? This is my daily driver. I'll be buying a new key for it from eBay.

Car is a '94 Z28 A4 w/ 137k on it.

Another source of the Security light is the contacts in the ignition key lock cylinder.

Shoebox has a good write-up here: http://shbox.com/1/pass_key.html

Yeah I thought that might be the case. I cleaned off my key with an eraser then sprayed some WD40 on the key and it's been fine ever since. I'm going to order another key just to be safe.
