Ok so I recently bought a 94' Z28 to strip for parts and the speedometer in it is the 110 mph one identical to the 6 cylinder gauge cluster. When looking for aftermarket/overlays they show the 93-96 z-28's as all having the same speedometer the 150mph one. Anyone encountered this before? I'm curious now if the tachometer in it is for the 6-cylinder also.

Z28's purchased without the "Z-rated tire" option from the factory received 110mph speedo's. Funny, that only a $200-$300 option would determine whether you had the 110 mph speedo with a speed governor, or the 150mph speedo and no speedo governor...

I've encountered them before.....my 93Z came with a 115mph speedo from the factory. I swapped it for a 150mph unit and put the overlay on. You basically have to take the cluster out to put the overlay on anyways, so you might as well just spend $25-40 for the 150 and throw it in while you're at it.
The tachometer however, is the 8-cylinder version. (the v6 and v8 versions have slightly different redlines...and look for a different 'pulse' count)

It was always explained to that the non Z-rated tires got slightly better gas mileage and it helped the CAFE average and this is why GM did it. I bought a brand new 1994 Z28 and found this out the hard way.
I am also looking for a 1993 150MPH speedometer right now.

I have a 150mph gauge cluster from a 93, but I'm not sure if it will be "sellable". See, I'm having a custom fabricator make me a stainless steel gauge panel that will allow me to install individual aftermarket gauges into the factory dash. I know he's gonna reuse the black shrowd part when fabricating it, but I'll have to ask him if the rest of the cluster is intact. I should know in a couple of weeks...
