OK I have already owned an 85 Z28, and 98 Firebird (v6, a4). So now that I have some money set aside for a new car of course I want another Fbody =P
But I have some questions I really need help with and if anyone here could help me out I'd be thankful.
Question #1: Besides the larger Fuel Tank, is there ANY difference between the 98-99 Camaro or Firebird (Base, SS, WS6, Formula, or anything)
Question #2: Witch Cars came with the 3.42 gears and witch came with 3.23s?
Question #3: Anything I should be looking for when trying to buy a 98-02 FBody? I'm basically looking for a good deal on an '01 WS6 M6 but money will be the ultimate decider on what I buy.
Thanks!

:think:
never heard of there being a different size gas tank....
and for differences...do you mean engine wise? cause the different packages included things like suspension, rims, ram air, exhaust...and many other small options. but the engine itself was the same...kindda.
98 used a differet head setup, ecm and injectors. the end result is pretty much the same power wise...mostly just small changes.
all m6 cars came with 3.42 gears
only autos with the "performance axle" got the 3.23s

You're going to find your best deals on 98 models, but stay away if you can, just because parts are different, and the already mentioned ECU thing. They seem to have more electrical problems too.
The gas tank thing is new to me also. The way you can tell if it has the performance axle is to check the codes on the sticker on the driver door. When you open the door there is a sticker there with a bunch of RPO codes.
GU2 = 2.73 gears
GU5 = 3.23 gears
GU6 = 3.42 gears (but only in an M6 as mentioned already)

Ok thanks for the gear info. (I'll assume that ALL M6s are 342s)
Can anyone tell me what upgrades that an SS and WS6 have over a Z28 and Trans AM?

Your obvious appearance differences. Theres supposed to be mild HP differences, but not a big enough deal to make fuss over. The motors get a better shot of cold air because of the airbox and the hood. There were suspension options also, but some of those can can find on Z28's.
Im sure someone will get in here and get way more detailed than me, but Ive owned both (and currently), theres not alot of performance difference. Go with whichever you get a better deal on.

Ditto on the 98's if you are going to mod it. :) Go with the later models.

Alright guys thanks alot, after alot of looking I think I'll just pick up a 99 Formula, seems to have all the things I want and is a little easier on the wallet than a WS6. One final question tho.....anyone know where on earth I can pick up the factory trim for the 98-02 Firebird/Formula? It seems to be a very rare option. Thanks again.

fyi the 98 fuel tank was a 15.5g steel unit and all later models have a 16.8g plastic one
