I have a chance to buy a whisper lid but read that you need a K&N filter breather, part #62-1030. So my question is do you? and if not will it hurt performance or reliability. It is my DD and a M6.

The AIR pump has a hose that runs to the lid on the later model LS1's. That's what the breather is for. If your car has a black hose about the diameter of a $0.25 running from the driver's side of the air lid to just under the driver's side headlight, then you either need a lid with a hole/gromet for that hose or you need the breather filter. But, it doesn't have to be a K&N filter. Just one the same size.

Yeah, you can pick up a breather filter at your local parts store. Stick it on the end of the hose and zip tie it somewhere to keep it out of the way (I use the eyelet near the top of the radiator). Just don't kink the hose restricting air flow, you'll get a SES light for AIR.
