I'm not exactly sure if this fits here, but I'll give it a try. I have an basic 81 camaro. Does anyone know if I can swap in a set of Z28 guages (perferably one that goes above 85 mph)? I'd like to get them working with the existing V6 and automatic.
Eventually, the motor and trans are going to be replaced with an LS1/2 and TKO 5 speed or T56.
Are either, or both, of these a crazy idea? What are others doing for these swaps?
Thanks

You could always go custom aftermarket. I'm currently wiring up mine as we speak. I dropped $1400 in a set of 12 digital gauges, and I'm having a metal fabricator fashion me a stainless steel gauge mounting panel so I can mount them professionally in the dash where the gauge cluster used to be. Now my speedometer will go to 200mph, instead of 150...

That's the other option. I like the look of the oem gauge set and whenever I check Covan's for an 81 dash insert, they keep telling me by the end of Summer. That's been 3 Summers now though.

Not a good one. They show up fairly regularly ebay if you search for 81 camaro z28 gauges.
But now that I look, they have the side by side tach and speedometer, with temp, fuel, alt, and clock in the four smaller gauge holes on either side. Conspicuously missing is oil pressure and oil temp. Maybe I'll wind up with a custom set of gauges anyway.
