Killed a Mustang in the new D.D.

Had to trade the Blazer (15 mpg) in for a more economical car for work.
I bought a 2005 Kia Spectra 4 door, it has all the options they can stuff in it, power sunroof, ground skirts, fog lights, decent wheels, etc....it has a 138hp DOHC 4 banger and a 5 speed. I don't baby the car at all and she still gets 30 mpg which is great for me since I drive 2000 miles a month or more.

I was driving home late one night on Rt.40 thru Elkton , MD and this 2004 Mustang rolls up next to me with the dude being all cool in front of his girl. So I got a little frisky with the go pedal and clutch and left him there when the light went green. The next red light came up quick and he knew I was gonna go again so when the light went green we both lit them up and got a 1/2 car length on him thru first and then power shifted into 2nd and pulled another 1/2 a length. It stayed like this until I let up at the top of 3rd. I was absolutely surprised that he didn't blow past me before that! I was proud of lil import. Oh yea...his stang was a v6 auto with at least exhaust work because it sounded like a flowmaster at least. I was grinning pretty good at him as he went on past....

Good thing you let off, there are a ton of Cecil and Elkton police in that area.

I have a 5spd 2006 Elantra and had a similar experience but from a roll. I was on route 4 near Salem Church road one night when a 99+ V6 tried to pull from me going while we were at 45. I stayed right with him and was slowly pulling on him when we let off at over 100 mph. I unfortunately am V-8 less for the first time in 9 years since I sold my Mark VIII, but the little Elantra embarassed that U of D student in front of his girlfriend.

do you think so? I would not really beat the sh!t out of it probabaly only wind out 2nd and 3rd gears.... as long as the clutch and cv joints hold up, it should be ok. Have you had any bad experiences you care to share ?

Nothing beter than a stang losing to an Elantra and a Kia!!!!! Two thumbs up!!!!

I've just never seen a turbo 4-cylinder on that much boost end up as a successful endevor. It seems as though aftermarket FI carxs are always a PITA and always need attention.

What is the stock boost level of the WRX....STI.....EVO.....VW 1.8T....are their bottome ends all forged or just the pistons ?

Check it out. I like it because it has everything needed to run the turbo safely (head spacer to lower compr.). All I would need is a new exhaust system and maybe a nice turbo timer. I could keep it adjusted low and conservative to "try " to get decent gas mileage and then when I just wanna have fun with it, turn the boost up and ad some 100 octane fuel in the mix to help prevent damage.

I would think the internal components of the kia engine would be able to handle the power level this kit claims....almost 200 whp...

I don't think the price justifies the power gains on the 2.0 Beta engine. I have heard of some popped head gaskets with the kits out there.

What level of boost were those gaskets blowing at ? Was there fuel delivery problems? Was there any contributing factors to the gaskets giving way? or is that just a weak point ?

I think the price is high but the power increase is 138 to around 240.

My wife's 99 V6 Mustang ran 15.3@91 stock....not blistering...but not slow.

For the record, about my old 97 I had....it had a CAI, underdrive pulley, 3.73 gears, DRs, 2k stall, stock exhaust except for flowmaster muffler ONLY, no head or cam or ignition stuff ,,,,,she ran very slow for some reason....1.90 60fts, 13.5s @ 105ish. I know this sucks so I sprayed it with a dry shot, 100hp and got the 12s, no biggy! I was very very very new with minimimal knowledge about the 4th gens and that was in 1998. NOW, I know exactly how to mod these cars and if I ever get a chance to get 1, you can be sure it will be running alot faster than 12.5 and thats with NO nitrous. :alert: :alert:

My terdmobile has been retired for the rest of the year. You want a run then it'll have to wait until next season, but as I said I'd love to take you up on that motor to motor offer you so generously proposed.

I already said my old 97 had issues and wasn't running the #s it should have been. That engine had issues the whole f----ing time I owned it, I really liked driving the car when it was healthy though, it's a shame!

I am proud of my low 12 second chevelle, it runs on pump gas, it's at full weight minus A/C and glass hood....I bet she weighs at least 3600 lbs, the carb is a totally stock 30 year old unmodded Holley and the stall converter is a piece of sh!t. I have a strong feeling that once I install a new better stall, better HP carb, and dial in the suspension; my baby will run high 11s say 11.6 ish or so. The car is making more power than any production chevelle ever produced except for maybe 1 and thats the 454 LS6 model ( I think they were rated at 450hp). That's not too bad considering I run pump gas and pass inspections with no probs!

Why don't you shoot me a PM when your ready to go to the track next year and I will try to meet up with you. We can run motor to motor and then we'll run my spray to your whatever else your planning. What track(s) do you goto ? I prefer Cecil since it is the fastest and closest to me.:D :D

Who is making excuses Private Pyle? I ran said ****box 4 times at the track in 2005. All of said runs were in the 11 second range and the ****box ran all four runs in the 126-128 mph range. Sounds like a great excuse to me LOL.

It didn't run faster because the car would not hook, therefore, the 60 foot suffered and so did the 1/4 mile time. Being the rocket scientist you are, I thought you had that figured out? Yes all of those runs with that mph shoulda woulda coulda been in the 10's but they were not.
