Perhaps a little early? 2007 NAIAS speculation!

Just over ~3 months to go, so what do you think we'll be seeing there for the Camaro?

In light of recent rumours (un-confirmed as of yet) that Camaro production is "moving along well", and that production could begin nearly a year EARLIER than officially announced, could we expect to see a (pre-) production version in January at the NAIAS?? If the car is REALLY moving along that quickly, and GM might have it in production by the end of next year, I can't see them keeping it under wraps too much longer?

What do you guys think?? ;)

I'm guessing we'll see a production, or very close to production, 5th Gen.! :)

Maybe a convertible as well???

Maybe some different models??? Perhaps a Z/28 and maybe an SS model? To start gaining interest in specific camaro models? A vert would be cool too...

we going?
As long as no more Yukon Denalis have it out for us this time around?!? :(

It would be cool to see a convertible version of the Camaro at the show, however I'd like to see something more REAL / OFFICIAL (regardless of roof / no roof) in terms of both appearance and POWERTRAIN ;). I'm sure everybody would at this point?

I missed any rumors about production being a year ahead of schedule. Where did you see it posted and who was spreading those rumors???

Check it ... (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=475250)

At this point, who knows? Even a couple of our resident "people in the know" seem a little stumped on this one ;). There hasn't been anything else said to confirm nor dispute this since .

Check out this weeks podcast... The guys called Les Jackson who claims he didn't say those things and hasn't seen production version pictures. Looks like it was just wishfull thinking / rumor mill.

My bet is Chevrolet will be the GM highlight this year. I predict we'll see a preproduction Camaro, the new production ready Malibu and an Impala concept.

I say no Impala, not yet.

CTS will be there though :)

Haven't had a listen to the podcast yet ... a lot of my "surfing" is while at work (shhhh!:D) and I clicked the link to the podcast but it was a no go:(. Haven't had time while I'm at home either  ;).

At this point, I wouldn't take something "said" as official or non-official, know what I mean? ;) I'm sure they'd rather not have a repeat of last year's ~November (think that's when it was? ) "leak" ..... I'm sure lips are going to be buttoned as tight as possible, although it's hard 'cause even one wrong "whisper" and then "WORD" gets out on the street!?

I wouldn't rule out the black Suburban theory, but I'm not holding my breath either. I think if we started holding our breath way back, we'd almost be dead by now!! :p

Do you think it would kill current Impala sales if GM tipped their hand on the 2009 model? Seems like the same thing will happen once people get a look at the new Malibu too - it is light years ahead of the current Malibu and looks to bite into Camry territory.

Just a note on this remark: "moving along well", the vehicle is far and away ahead of schedule. Certainly more than people would think.

Gutsy enough to say 2007? C'mon...just say it. None of the insiders are saying it, but I think secretly they believe it. I don't know why all the insiders are afraid to speculate.

Probably because it's not "speculation" ... it's job-loss that they're afraid of ;).

Was test driving for a new(used) '00 Trans-Am with ram-air this evening at a Chevy dealership. (my '97 Z28 has 153,000 miles and I'm afraid won't make it until 2009)

The salesman said his boss had just gotten back from Vegas and said that they were hearing that the official/unofficial word was that it would be a 2008 model year but a LATE 2008 model year (as in Winter/Spring 2008).

(I didn't like the way the Trans-Am drove at all... I'm suprised at that as I thought the F-Bodies were the same underneath? Is there that much of a difference between the LT1 and the LS1 engines? Otherwise it was a beautiful car...)

The LS1 has more power, but a lot of people think that the LT1 has a torquier feel off the line. I remember a lot of comments about this when the LS1 first launched.

And a couple month ago a salesman told me his boss already had a 5th gen custom made just for him. They were giving them out to dealership owners first to help promote the car.
And in 2002 a (different) salesman told me he had already filled out the forms to request his dealerships acquisition of 2003 5th gen Camaros.
Of course the official date from GM is late 2008 production, early 2009 availability. So your guy wasn’t far off comparatively.

it's hard to say what reaction to these new cars will be. We all hope they are well received by the public, and can stimulate sales.

biggest problem is now, and will be... PERCEPTION.

The Malibu can look nicer than the Camry inside and out, but has the Camry ever been a special looking car? GM not only has to win people over with looks, but with driveability and function.

I have faith in the General, but it is still a long road ahead. If these cars are what people say, they have a great shot.
