350 or 383 build for SC?

I currently have a cam and bolt on LT1 and it runs pretty good. There's nothing wrong with the engine that would force a rebuild other than I want more out of it (it only has 32K miles and 2k after the cam swap). I plan on getting a head/cam combo specifically for a SC (any recommendations?). I want to eventually add a P-1SC or D-1SC supercharger to top off the build. My goal is to reach 500+RWHP. I would also like to get decent gas mileage, is this a reason to dump the big cam and go with a smaller cam and supercharge it? Anyway I'm getting about 11 to 12 mpg they way my car stands now. With all this in mind should I build a 350 or 383? Are there prepackaged kits for either choice?

Your time and expertise are welcome.

Thanks,
Dave

I say build a 355 with a strong bottom end. Use a 5.7 rod so you get more compression height, ie stronger piston. A 355 will use a smaller dish, again, stronger piston. Keep the compression on the low side, 8-8.5:1 with an intercooler. You don't need to go too exotic with heads or cam, just add 12-15psi boost and you will have a safe (with the correct tune) and reliable ride.

I always thought a 383's low end and mid torque complimented the top end rush of a centrifugal supercharger. I have done many stroker conversions and every single time, I was happy with the results. I had destroked from 383 down to 360 cid because it supposedly matched my T76GTS turbo better. Well, long story short, I now have a 388.

If the crank and rods you have are good forged units, re-use them, do a 355 and save some $$. If you're gonna replace the rotating assembly, then do the 383.

If your gonna go with real high boost, I say do a 355 since getting pistons and such to match your app. will be easier. A short rod, opens you up to some really nice pistons ...

On the flip side of things, there are ALOT of stroker motors out there that are boosted and holding up just fine. If your looking for somewhere to cut corners ($), go with a 355 and put the extra money into your tune. Thats what really matters the most anyways.
