Few Questions

Hi, I am new to this site and have found it filled with valuable info....although i have a few questions....

1} After i hit 6-8 psi of boost, I checked under the hood and noticed i blew my IAT sensor out of the intake elbow.....any quick fixes for this? How about sealing the port with a plug and relocating it?

2} While just crusing around i can't even tell theres a blower on the car except for the whine.....Is it normal not to see much HP/TQ improvement UNLESS at WOT and when the BOV closes and makes higher boost?

3} What fuel pressure should i see while under 6-8 psi of boost?

4} I ran a 13.2@110 NA and then ran 2 consecitive 12.0@118 on a 100 shot...With 1.75 60'. This was before the blower install....Any predictions what i should run now with the blower.. listed below are my mods

93 Trans Am - CC305 cam, mild port/polish job on heads, 2.0 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves, 1.6 Crane Gold Roller Rockers, msd ignition with timing control and coil, PCM For Less Tuning, moser 9" with 3.90 gears, Spohn adjustable TA and lower control arms, MT ET Street radials

Sorry for the long post

Welcome :)

What blower are you running?

I'm running a Vortech S-Trim and have the IAT threaded into the Vortech metal elbow. The IAT plastic housing is threaded using a die.

A suggest you add a boost gauge to you car. You will find that the majority of the time your intake is in vacuum, thus no difference in your power. As you put your foot into it or increase the load on the engine (climb a hill) the blower contributes to the power by increasing the density of the air/fuel mixture supplied to the cylinders. Closing of the bypass valve forces all of the air to the intake allowing you to pressurize the intake.

Your fuel pressure will depend on whether you're running a FMU or not and what size fuel injectors you're running. I eliminated the FMU and went for bigger injectors and a custom tune so I'm running stock fuel pressure (46 psi at idle with the vacuum line off, see about 50 - 55 psi at 10# of boost). A FMU setup can see 90 - 100 psi at 8# of boost.

I'm running the ATI P600B with 8LB pulley.

I have a trickflow aluminum elbow but it seems like the IAT hole is way too big for the sensor.

I do have a boost guage and like you posted it does show vacuum most of the time unless i get into the throttle and it changes to boost.

I have 42LB/HR injectors and no FMU as well, I'll pull off the vacuum line to see what the pressure is at idle when i get home from work....At about 7PSI boost its somewhere around 50-55psi.

Thanks

the fuel looks good...

but I would get rid of the trick flow elbow....it has no splitter and would work better on a NA setup...you can get procharger elbow or one from vortech for $90....if you plan on moving the MAf to the pressure side I would go with the vortech as it is shorter and you would not have to cut it like the one from ATI

I don't have a MAF where my car is a 93 (Speed Density)...I noticed in your signature that you ran NOS with the P600B. How big of a shot did you use and what were your times like? I used to use nitrous but since i put the SC on i haven't had a chance to try it..

Thanks

you would have to see the setup...

the N20 runs into a cheater noid .....then to a y block, one side goes to another cheater noid and sharknozzle with a 50 wet shot...

the other side of the first y block runs to another y block and that spilts down into two n.o.s dry nozzles with 20shot jets( i forget the orifice size) on some brackets I made that ice over the FMIC..

I have yet to use the wet 50 shot...dont have my twins pumps in just yet

I have used the FMIC sprayer and it makes for a nice gain...I would say maybe 40+ rwhp

...no track times or dyno numbers yet...

well...I have some numbers but it was not a good day,and it was all boost

1. I would get a new elbow and keep the IAT in that location. Reason being is you don't want to relocate it to arbitrarily advance the timing on a FI car. You want it reading the incoming airflow temps so that the computer knows the real temp and will react to that.

2. That's the nice thing about blower cars. Unless you are in the gas, they can be as docile as stock.

3. If you're running 50-55lbs of fuel pressure I'd say there's an adjustable FPR on the car, and with the 42lb injectors with no FMU the car has got to be tuned for it, so I'd leave that be if you're not getting any adverse effects.

4. Haven't got a clue as that could be wildly variable.

Sounds like a decent setup you've got. :thumb:
