Question Delco vs NGK Spark Plugs

I've searched but did not find an answer to my question. Why does everybody go with NGK spark plugs rather than Delco. I have a stock setup on my 99 TA and was going to get Delco plugs but it seems like everyone likes the NGK plugs better. Does anybody know if they are better even on a stock setup car?

Thanks,
Shawn

The TR55 and TR6 are both copper, which is a better conductor and they're cheaper (about $2 compared to $8 or so for the delco platinums). AFAIK, Delco doesn't make a copper plug for the LSx. At least that's why I used the NGKs.

Re: Delco vs NGK Spark Plugs

Good question!

I don't know what kind of "scientific" evidence we have for spark plugs (like there is to compare, say, oil filters) but I know with plugs it's one of those things that if guys try one and it's crap, then try another and it works really well, and a bunch of other people have the same experience, then that's the way to go?

I know in the snowmobiling world (north of the border, eh?) there's always a debate whether to run Champion plugs or NGK's. I think it might be the Polaris guys that say Champions work best for them, but I've almost always ridden an Arctic Cat (Suzuki built engine) and for them it's NGK's all the way . Only makes sense to continue that mindset into my Camaro!!

I've heard no real reason NOT to run Delco's in a Camaro though ... I don't think you can go wrong either way really?

Edit: ^ ^ ^ guess we got our answer??

I use TR55's - they're cheap, work fine in my car, and don't mind changing plugs once a year just to see what's going on without putting the old ones back in.

The platinum delcos will have a longer life span but cost about 3 times as much as the NGKs. Plus, the NGKs copper conductors prove useful in forced induction applications. With a stock setup, you can't go wrong with either plug though.

GM now specs Delco Irridium plugs as their OEM plug. I have used NGK IX55 Irridium plugs and Delco Irridium plugs and honestly couldn't tell any differencde between the two except for the $4/plug I saved by using the Delco Irridium plugs.

Cool. I appreciate all of the info. If anybody has anything else to add I'm listening. I think I'm going with Delco just for the longevity of the spark plug.

Thanks again,
Shawn

Re: Delco vs NGK Spark Plugs

It's the copper electrode. It makes a better more stable spark. Their down fall is the shorter lifespan.
The only reason that platinum and iridium plugs exhist is because they last longer, not because they work better.

my car's pretty stock and I noticed a pretty good difference with the switch. But I did the wires at the same time (Taylor 409's), and my old Delco plugs were pretty wore out.

If you replaced with your old stuff with brand new Delco plugs/wires you probably would have noticed the same difference.

Yeah, SLP makes it. You can buy a cheap one at sears or someplace and cut it.

Another good reason for the NGK plugs is if your car is fouling the plugs out, 2 dollars a pop is easier to deal with until you fix the problem.
