I have a 00 trans am ws6 m6, the emergency brake handle or parking brake handle whatever you want to call it doesnt work as it should...

When i first got it the guy said it was fixed, but about a week after driving it, the button on the end shot out (still attached to the handle and spring is still on it). today i took out the center console and i have NO clue how to fix it. checked the haynes manual, cant find anything. theres a hook on the end of the rod that the button on the end of the handles connected to, its supposed 2 hook on .... something that i cant find or that is broke off of the assembly, anyone have any ideas as to what it should hook to? , ive tried to let it hook to the little elver that locks it onto the gear thing to hold it up in position but when i let go of the button it just shoots back out as the lever thats supposed 2 hold the brake up moves or something. quick responses would be very much appreciated thanks in advance
