LS1 and tranny life span?
LS1 and tranny life span?
Hi, new to the board and looking to buy a 00ish Transmaro. What is the life span of the LS1 and the trannys? I've read the LT1 was good for 150K+ is the same true for the LS1? Is there anything I should be on the lookout for in the 80K range?
Thanks,
Clay

Re: LS1 and tranny life span?
The LS1 seems to be just as solid as the LT1 for longevity. Since it doesn't have the optispark, it actually has less potential issues in that regard. Although I've heard of a few people with annoying crank position sensors that stop working.
As for the transmission... The 4L60E doesn't typically make it very far beyond 100K. My first Z28 (94) had the tranny blow up at 90,000. My current Z28 (95) had the tranny go out at 104,000.

You should be fine, the LS1s are very durable motors and can live a very long lifespan. If you get a manual tranny (t-56), they can take a big beating and can hold up to some big power numbers if you modify your motor, the automatic tranny on the other hand (4l60-e) can't withstand as much and will need a good rebuild eventually whether your motor is stock or modified.
