Camaro sightngs, something to consider

I see CJMatt's thread from back in May come up about the Yellow Saleen car (which seemed way off the way back then) and it brings up a thought. We really need to reserve some judgement when someone sees something. Just because we all know more than most doesn't make us all-seeing. I know, I know, I remember all the false claims and whatnot that go around on boards for everything from Camaro: "Saw an AWD Camaro Diesel today". The point here is we just need some details of what someone saw and just consider it. I will stake my life on the fact we are going to have vets and newbies writing about sightings in the times leading up to them hitting the lots. Heck, if Michael Bay can get one before us what do you think all the tuners are doing? They will most likely get what Ford gave, pre-production vehicles to work on aftermarket parts. So, keep the threads on what you see coming, and make sure you have at least some details of what you saw. I want to know if you see something, and you shouldn't be detered.

I’m willing to bet a lot of the road testing will be done down under.

You forgot to mention FWD, and was a 4 cylinder. Oh, 6 wheels.

Jacoz35thSS, CJMatt's thread can't be used as a normal yardstick. Although I treated his post in doubt, but still cautiously and respectfully, his is the 1 post out of hundreds that turn out in the end to be mistaken identity, hearsay, or just someone making it up. Being that GM only made 2 models (the silver running model & the red fiberglass.... the other fiberglass silver one came later), and the fact that GM hadn't approved the car, and wasn't at the "running prototype stage", it was a sound judgement to doubt CJ's sighting.

Now, Camaro is an approved project. Alot of the car is already done. Whatever isn't on or in the Holden VE has been done on computer programs, and being that there's just 26 months before production, and that it's going to take far more time doing real world testing than engineering, we should very soon see prototypes on the road. As mentioned, most likely in Australia.

I'm just sittin' back waiting for the glory days ;) ..... cruising past the plant, seeing row upon row of 5th-gen Camaros lined up .

...but yeah, I'll certainly go into a tail-spin the first time I see one driving on the road around here!

I see your points, I just want to make sure we don't drive someone away from the forums just because we didn't see the same thing they did. I will agree that his situation was unique, but I want to hear from those who happen to see tuner cars in the early stages. Even though this is a movie car, we may just see a Saleen Camaro down the road. So, if someone happens to see a Hennessey version when all the pre-pro stuff is going on I wouldn't be in shock knowing what we know now.

Unfortunately i hope you are wrong, and that they do most of the testing here in the motor city, as i keep my digital in my car for just such incidents, as during my daily commute to and from work down I-94, i see all kinds of test mules, from HD ford trucks, Kia's, to recently a Aston martin, so i am hoping GM tests where the live, and where they will be selling, for real world conditions, namely our wonderful michigan roads, or pot hole proving grounds as we come to love.

I know it'd be hard for them to do, but GM has a place here in Texas. A friend of mine took some pics of it. Maybe they are doing it there.
