Good Deal or No?

First, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum.. It's a 3rd Gen, but it's a V6 at the same time and I'm looking for an opinion. Blah. Anyway..

http://detroit.craigslist.org/car/209146056.html

It's a $700 '92 RS with an automatic 2.8L V6. Guy says it runs alright and may just need a tune... body looks to be in good condition.

Question is that I'm looking for a winter car so I can keep my '98 safe in the garage (and I'm sure the '92 is cheaper on insurance) during the snowy months. Now, yeah, it's RWD, but whatever.. that's what sandbags are for.

However, the twist to the story is that my dad has been looking for a late model 3rd Gen with a 305 or 350 because he'd like to build a 350 into it. He wants it to be an auto, too. So, would the auto from the V6 work on a 350 swap? And how difficult is the 2.8 to 5.7 swap in this style car? If so, maybe I can talk him into buying the car (or splitting the cost 50/50) and I'll tune it for the winter then he can have it for a 350 swap in. Oh, which reminds me, any idea on about how much would a 350 swap would cost him?

Thanks to whoever can help me!

Well first off, we don't know much about this car...and this guy's grammar is not something to be desired. So would you believe him so far that the car just "needs a tune"? That can mean absolutely anything.

If you check it out, the most important thing is to check for rust and rot, alot of people overlook this. Also, start the car up, check for leaks, yadda yadda, you know.

I would try and knock the price down to $500 at the least, based on what I have dealt with in the past when people have told me "it just needs a tune".

And the tranny on the little V6 won't bolt up to a V8. And you'll need V8 frame mounts for the engine. Pictures don't show much, typical, but if indeed it's a Florida T-top car, well worth the money.

Yeah, I guess I forgot to mention I'd try to knock it down to $500 or so.

I don't know though. Give me a few more responses and maybe I'll tell my dad about it and we'll check it out before I head to college..

And while I'm at it.. would the V6 driveshaft and front springs work with a, say, 350/350 swap?

Do you guys know if the driveshaft and front springs would work on a 350/350 swap?

i don't think you would have much problem finding springs and a driveshaft from the local junkyard there are all kind of third gens laying around up here its kinda sad really.... i would guess that you would need a different driveshaft but im not really sure. and you could run the v6 springs but it would handle alot better with the v8 ones in it.
