EFI on a Buick 455?

This (http://homepage.mac.com/jakerobb/gsx/) is my father-in-law's car.

He wants to install an EFI system on it. I have found one site that will take his intake manifold, machine injector bosses on it, and provide all of the parts he'll need (injectors, pump, ECU, software, throttle body, fuel rails and lines) for $3250.

Here is the company: http://force-efi.com/

The second car listed on this page (http://www.ridetech.com/streetchallenge/streetchallenge2006.asp) is the same year and model, and has the aforementioned EFI conversion already installed.

I can't find any other options other than a complete custom one-off.

Am I missing any options? Is the $3250 kit going to cost less than a complete custom one-off? Are there other hurdles to jump over in the conversion process?

If you are more DIY look into Megasquirt. Still going to have to deal with machining stuff but this is a very DIY budget oriented injection retrofit system.

You gotta love the Buick 455. My dad has one, but it's stock. It has only 510 # torque.

I would like to see the videos of your father in law's on his website, but they won't work.

I would put a stock cast-iron stage 1 intake and a quadrajet on it and be done with it. Those cars made the best power with that setup over all of the other aftermarket aluminum intake setups, except for the Edelbrock B4B, which was an exact replica of the stock stage 1 intake only in aluminum casting. Of course, FI is much better, but a carb belongs on that car. Just my opinion of course.

Have you looked at the holley projection kits? they're about 1500 i think.

You could maybe go with a 4 bbl throttle body and use Rbob's EBL system. Search Thirdgen.org search term EBL. While I'm not a fan of TB injection, this system seems to be getting pretty good results. This would eliminate manifold machining and welding and you would get a nice functional GM style ECM with 4 large TB injectors to supply enough fuel. Probably worth looking into. Other than that I would just do the manifiold machining and put a TPI ECM and wiring harness on. Uses 8D code. I've tuned a big block Chevy with this set up on and it purrs like a kitten.

Kinsler shows at least on "Buick" application in their catalog, but its not clear if its for factory setup, or Dart heads.

They are in MPEG 4 format -- you'll need QuickTime 7 to play them. Although I thought Windows Media Player would do it too. It's my site -- I just made a page for his car.

It already has the Stage 1 intake and an 850 Q-jet. He wants to go EFI, and I don't think TBI is what he has in mind.

Thanks to all who posted ideas! :)

A friend of mine machined his own intake for injectors, and then adapted an EECIV ford ECM to it and surprisingly it ran incredibly well with matching injectors/maf and no programming… probably the ultimate low buck approach. He ended up converting it to a megasquirt setup but doesn’t like that because “it’s my wife’s driver but I want to tinker with it”
