How do you get the shoe polish off of your car?

I'm not really sure where to put this post.....but I do know that the shoe polish got on my car when I was racing, so I'll try here.

About a month a go I went to the track. I haven't had time to get the white shoe polish off yet. I don't drive the car that often so it hasn't been a bother. At first, I loved it on the numbers on there. Almost like battle scars :) But now the thrill is over.... I'm getting ready to put the car away for winter, and I want them off before I do it.

I've tired windex, but it doesn't help it. I know its getting colder out (Michigan here). Will soap and water work just fine? - God I feel so stupid for asking this.... But, I honestly don't know. My g.f has tried a few things to take it off, but she said she can't get it off either.

Thanks for any advise you can give.

Just scrape it off with a razor blade.

I either use the razor blade/windex method; or I just take a small amount of carb and choke cleaner, spray it on a rag, and it will wipe it right off. :D Just be careful not to get any on the paint. :eek:

I have also heard if you wax the window area with normal car wax before the shoe polish is put on, it will wipe off MUCH easier. Next time I go to the track I'm gonna try it. HTH. :cool:

Once you get tired of constantly using shoe polish especially when you have to keep changing dial-ins, go and buy some East-Wipe or Geddix dial-in. It works just like shoe polish but wipes off with a dry rag.

i second that, i switch to it this year, becuase the shoe polish kept flaking off and getting stuck on my paint

It wipes off so easily that I don't risk scratching the Lexan either.

If you wipe it off soon after you race, like the next day, it usually will come off with soapy water just fine. Me and my dad use Brake Clean(like the carb cleaner someone else suggested), and it comes off with no problem.

Well as you probalby already noticed ... when you scrap it off with a razor blade, you get little white flakes every where.

The next easiest and best way is to use a clay bar with some windex. The clay bar will pick the shoe polish right off the window.

But like the guys said the best is to get Geddex or something like it ...cleans right off with just water.

Permanent numbers and dial indicators if you get serious about it. ;)

For cleaning, "Pink Stuff" works. Really disolves shoe polish unlike Windex.

I use this High Tech Glass Cleaner stuff my friend got for me when he worked at a detailing shop :) I think it has ammonia in it and you just spray it on and wipe it off... takes the numbers right off. I got tired of using half a bottle of windex.

Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) works great
if its two days or two months old. No little white chips because it dissolves it
away.

The Tech guys HATE "RAIN-X"...haha

Too bad my car always has a fresh coat on the windows!!:)

Personally, I used the razor blade / windex method.

This spring, when the track re-opens, I'm going to put my numbers on before I go to the track. I had white vinyl cling film cut for my numbers.

Stick them on ... peel them off.

Than the numbers won't stick, just like Rain-X. As stated above, the Techs hate this.
