unvc92camarors 09-09-2006, 03:57 PM What do you think of them? The flying in the air is a little different, but atleast they've got some good music (Jet) in the background.
Seems like they'll get the point across as well.
LS1_Disciple 09-10-2006, 04:39 PM What I'd like to know is how is showing people jumping off bridges onto a truck full of new cars any less irresponsible than a kid dreaming about driving a Corvette?
Where are all the safety Nazi's now?

I was thinking the same thing about the new Mustang GT commercials with the kid and his dad in the parking lot doing burnouts.

It's not the safety Nazis.... not by a long shot.
It's called "Liability". Even if a lawsuit is ridiculous, and is likely to be slammed down in court, it costs big money to defend. Sometimes, it's cheaper to just settle out-of-court than to fight it or have something go public.
If you want to blame someone, blame parents who want to raise their kids in a cocoon. Blame the guy or gal, or their parents who want to get money after a major crash by saying they were influenced by a commercial for either personal gain or as a crap shoot to get someone to cover their medical costs.
The thin line in these commercials is drawn by liability. Some makers get by this by the disclaimer that goes something like "Closed road circuit...do not attempt", others might go a litter farther and film in an obviously barren location like the middle of the dessert.
However, add a young child into the mix, and parents go spastic, and you get a public relations nightmare if you don't act quickly.
That's why the Corvette dream comercial was pulled, and how adults jumping off a bridge is OK. Mustangs doing powerslides in an abandoned warehouse or GTOs doing "J" turns into a suburban home garage is fine. There's no driver visable.
If the "Corvette Dream" commercial was some college kid daydreaming in class, it would be a non-issue.
LS1_Disciple 09-11-2006, 08:18 PM Guy - I understand, but it's still madness ;)
RMC_SS_LDO 09-11-2006, 09:34 PM While I understand the "flying high" commercial concept, it seems..... a bit ghey.
Sorry, but personally I would have preferred to see a slick packaged commercial putting the PRODUCT first, rather than them flying around looking a little silly. Yea, it would likely get bashed for being to Euro, but show off the attention to detail, the quality of workmanship and who knows- maybe some of the folks who actully build them in the heartland. Why has Toyota been so successful- they do a great job telling folks exactly what they (Toyota) want them to hear regardless of the full truth. Toyota doesn't sell great cars, they package good cars GREAT.
Pride is a powerful tool and a great message to convey. Sort of "put your money where your mouth is". GM has made incredible steps forward but tons of potential buyers are still stuck with images of crappy cars from the 80's in their heads. I dont know how to write commercials- maybe show mom and dad putting their kids in a new GM, then taking the same car to the prom, then them going off to college in a GM they could always count on
Sometimes you HAVE to point out the obvious when people can't see it. Problem is, one of the hardest tricks can be pointing it out in a way people can latch onto it and take mental ownership of it. Flying cars aint bad, but it aint it IMHO.
I'll stop rambling now and watch the game......

When I saw that commercial I kinda smacked my head a little bit. GM's commercials have been decent lately but that one was kinda.............off the wall with people jumping from buildings onto a truck
MarcR94v6 09-12-2006, 08:26 AM Notice other car companies having a variation of that commercial lately after GM's?? Either them leaping to a new car, or falling from, the sky onto the dealer lot.

Actually I did notice that, right after the GM commercials did that, Toyota pulled an almost identical concept with their commercials. Copy cattin' motha F***ers
Caps94ZODG 09-12-2006, 10:54 PM how bout the toyota car carrier commercial like the GM one??
