Replace intake gaskets...or not?

I know the intake gaskets are supposed to be reusable, but I am asking anyway to be sure.

I have the stock intake off my car, and will be changing over to the FAST. Just need to know if I need to change the intake gaskets/seals or not. They look fine, but there was a little imprint of oil from the gasket on the heads when I removed the intake. Does that mean they are need to be replaced? Or do I just switch the old ones over to the new intake?

I called around and most auto parts store are in the $29-35 range. The dealership has them in stock, and MY price is $50 (they list for $70).

Just wanting some advice.

as long as there aren't any indentations along the edge that makes contact with the head and they stick out of the intake far enough to give a good seal, then they're good to be reused.

For the cost of them, I would probably replace them. I'm sure over time the heat would start to break them down and/or make them more brittle. For a few bucks extra, better be safe than sorry:thumb:.

That's what I figure, why not save myself the time and trouble!

Yeah, don't want to have to take it off again...helped do a couple and we always used new gaskets.

They are totally reusable. Even in the GM service manual it says to inspect them and if they are not damaged then reuse them.
They don't seal anything except for atmospheric air. No oil, no water.
You could spend that $30 on something else.

You are sucking oil vapor into your intake through the PCV system. This is a common issue with LS1's. A catch can will stop most of the vapor from getting into the intake.

Might as well just go ahead and do the PCV mod. I just ordered the parts.

On my LT1 we dimpled the surfaces then used RTV and done..

LS1 is a totally dry intake. There is a valley pan under it that is bolted to the block. So the fix you're outlining has no place on the LS1, thank god.

The intake gaskets are 8 port shaped quad rings that fit into grooves in the manifold and seal up around the intake ports on the head.
