6-Speed noise

This has probably been brought up several times before, but i cant seem to find an answer. My 97 LT1 6-speed has a rattle noise in 1st and second gears at about 1-2k rpm. I can only hear it for a few seconds then it goes away. Also the only way i can use reverse is by holding the shifter in place, otherwise it pops out. I took it into the dealer and they said this all was normal. Any input would be helpfull.

Reverse popping out is NOT normal.

The 4th Gen FAQ reads (http://www.ws6.com/faq/4_3.htm#ch4_3j);
" A lot of times when adding an aftermarket shifter, part of the rubber boot is putting tension on the shifter. Take apart the console, and put the car in reverse and make sure there's nothing rubbing against the shifter. It might be that you just need to refit the new shifter in place, or you may even need to go as far as trimming some of the plastic or rubber so that the shifter goes into reverse unrestricted. This is less common with the stock shifter, but its still possible, if this is the case, let the dealer make the adjustments."

Thanks for the info guys. One thing i might add though is the trans doesnt kick out of reverse if i let the cluth out slowly and let it "clunk" into reverse.
