Slp shifter ???

I was looking through the SLP online catalog and I saw that they have a short throw shifter for $79. Do any of you guy's have one and it looks like you have to install your original shift handle. is this true?

SLP Short throw

I have it in both of my Z's. You do keep the stock shifter shaft with the rubber grament in it. I like that but others like a steel shaft for a firmer feel like the Pro 5. The OEM shaft on it helps keep the vibration noise from transmission from traveling through it. The top of the **** is shorter like the Hurst that GM put in some of them. It makes a huge differance, like all the shifters, with tighter feel and easy to hit shifts. The stock ball will work on it too but I put in the "H" ball for people that want to look in and see a Hurst OEM shifter. Can't beat it for the price but you may want to look at the Pro 5 also. its nowhere near the same as say having a B&M. The SLP deal is a modified stock shifter.

Most guys like it though, untill they try one of the true aftermarket ones.

Thumbs down shifter

I have the slp shifter in my Z and it SUCKS. I've driven friends cars with B&M and Pro 5.0 shifters and its like night and day. I may as well still have the stock shifter in comparison to the others. I get a grind between 2-3 75% of the time unless I am careful to pull it straight out of second, move it over and put it straight into third. If you plan on racing at all, spend a little extra cash and get a good shifter that isn't gonna cost you a race. Some people may like them, thats just my .02

Yeah, I have the slp short throw in mine with a lou's short stick on it. The lou's made a huge difference, but the damn shifter sucks! Especially when every now and then, I hit a dead spot between third and fifth if i'm racing and really shoving it hard and fast into third, it's a real bitch and I hope I don't **** anything up before I get a pro 5.0! I heard there is no dead spot with the pro 5.0 or b&m ripper, and that the slp and stock shifters are notorious for it. The reason I am choosing the pro 5.0 over the ripper is so I can put a lou's short stick on it, I love the lou's. It makes a huge difference, and I don't want any other handle that is longer. Also, if anyone is selling a pro 5.0 for a good deal, let me know, preferably with a lou's short stick on it, but if not, i'll get the lou's myself. Also, the slp shifter feels really ****ty! It's like flimsy and ****, feels like i'm gonna break the ****ing thing everytime I shift hard!

The short throw B+M Ripper can be found for ~$160 and feels a lot better. When you change it out you'll see the SLP is flimsy compared to the alum. billet B+M.

The pro 5.0 is billet also :

Don't get fooled by look-alike shifters. Others may copy the look of the Pro-5.0, but not their industry acclaimed design. The Pro 5.0 shifter contains no castings or mass produced parts. All components are manufactured from superior quality billet materials so they will last forever. Get the custom machined shifter that will improve your shifting like no other can.

Would there be any problems in purchasing a used one, cause i'm kind of on a budget and would prefer to pick up a used one cheaper?

Why don't you just cut an inch or so off the Pro 5.0? I did and most people do to and IMO it feels perfect. Or...why don't you just use the LSS that you already have on the SLP? It just sounds like you're going to buy one, when you already have one.

You can't use the LSS from the SLP on the Pro 5.0, they are different. They make one LSS for stock, stock hurst, and slp shifter. Then they make another one for aftermarket hurst shifters. And then they also make one just for the Pro 5.0. There's not just one that fits all the shifters. Wish there was, but there's not, different designs I guess.

i have an slp shifter. its base is billet aluminum, and its not that bad. ive also installed and driven a aftermarket hurst shifter. the adjustable stops are a nice feature, and it makes it easier on the shift forks im sure. the slp shifter doesnt have the stops, but it still shifts pretty good. worth $80 imo.

thanks guy's. I had a Hurst in my '97. i think I'll probaly get one of them or possibly B&m or pro 5.0. I've already told my GF thats what I want for Christmas. All i know is that the stock shifter sucks. I'm afraid to shift fast because it feels so weak.
