when u open the hood on an ls1 u see two baffles on the side of the air filter there huge! what are they and what do they do?

they are exactly what you called them...baffles...

air silencers of some kind.

ie....CRAP that gm built into an otherwise beautiful engine bay.

you're right, they're baffles. They are there to cut the induction howl, after market air intake lids don't have these and you'll notice it in more ways than one

^ Yep, Kills intake noise. I've been told that the Poly intakes are noisy as it is, but who would buy a car like ours and complain about noise???...:confused:

I definitely noticed more throaty noise from the engine bay AFTER installing a lid than before w/factory lid.

But my LS1 is still way quieter than my buddy's LT1 with a CAI kit:rolleyes:. Holy jumpin', thing sounds like a Hoover from ~20 feet away!! :lol: I can't get over the air sucking/whistling noise that thing makes:irk:.

Then again, you can hear the good 'ol LS1 lifter/rocker clatter from ~20' away with my car, so who am I to talk?;)
