Bayer-Z28 08-31-2006, 11:51 AM I was on my way home the other day and the car just started pulling for no reason. I hadn't changed the throttle position, it felt like I was driving w/ the ebrake on slightly, then was let off. -Car was in a good mood I guess.
And the opposite happened the other day. Was on my way home again and the it felt like I was towing somehting all of a sudden.
Any ideas??... I think it's about time for a new fuel filter. Could that be it?
soul strife 08-31-2006, 11:58 AM Yep, change the fuel filter. Also, check your plug wires, plugs, air filter, coil packs. First, do a simple check on everything. Can't hurt ya know.
skifast87 08-31-2006, 01:42 PM i agree with the man above sounds like a fuel filter
Bayer-Z28 08-31-2006, 03:41 PM Kewl... Still the OEM Filter. Bought the car w/ 19,500 almost 4 years ago. It's got 32k on it now. I DO have to clean my K&N, quite dirty. My NGK's have about 10k on them.. about time for new ones there...
Thanx guys... :cz28:

Also, make sure the MAF is clean. That was the problem with mine. Especially if you're using a K&N, if not oiled exactly right, the oil can also get on the MAF and cause the same problem. If it looks corroded/dirty at all, just VERY CAREFULLY and lightly scrape the wires clean, or get some electrical contact cleaner or something--not really sure what--and clean the sensor wires.
skifast87 08-31-2006, 07:19 PM Im gonna be honest with you. 10k on a set of plugs is nothing I dont know much about NGK but most plugs should run any where from 40 to 60k. If i were you befor you go out and buy new plugs check to make sure the ones you have are gapped correctly. Also just look at the general condition of them i would bet they are fine.

I know its hard to read but the above link should help you guage the wear on your plugs.
Bayer-Z28 08-31-2006, 07:26 PM ^ the NGK's are only good to around 10k miles. So it's prolly about time to change them. AC's, yes you can rack some mileage on.
I just hand polished my MAF last week. I could go in there w/ some alcohol and Q tips to clean it. It didn't seem dirty. I made sure I was xtra careful around the wires. I taped one of them, but it didn't move it at all.
skifast87 09-01-2006, 02:44 PM hmm i am glad you corrected me. Why is it that they only last 10K. Also is it worth the trouble to change them every year.
Bayer-Z28 09-01-2006, 02:52 PM No idea bro... I guess the performance plugs don't last long.
skifast87 09-01-2006, 03:10 PM hmmm well i guess it cant hurt to try them out
Bayer-Z28 09-01-2006, 03:14 PM I'm not sure on perofmance gains. I installed them when I did my LT's and catted Y. Also did Taylor Spiro-Pro 10.4 race wires. Maybe 5hp...
EDIT/Update. I cleaned the Filter and MAF. The MAF was a LOT dirtier than I thought it was. Would rotating the MAF have any different effects on fuel mileage or driveability? The partition is normally verticle, what if I rotated the MAF so the partition was horizontal?
skifast87 09-01-2006, 06:32 PM Yeah i dont think it would do much for preformance. I dont have any issues with the ACD's in there right now car runs smooth and great. just wondering if it got any better i guess.
AL SS590 M6 09-02-2006, 12:57 AM NGK tr55s are a copper plug and should last in a properly tuned motor for about 30k. The reason that copper plugs go bad faster than platinum is that the copper burns away slowly during normal usage.
Bayer-Z28 09-02-2006, 01:20 AM ^ I had my car tuned by a reputable tuner/installer back home. All the mods I have now, minus the susp mods, were all in the car when i had the car tuned w/ LS1 Edit by EastSide Performance. "LS1 Edit Tuning Specialists" They did a 300hp dual stage nitrous shot in a 383 motor... Also in GMHTP
