A Question Regarding Replacing LS1 Brakes

Hey Guys,

I purchased a 1998 Z28 A4 last summer. Whenever I get on the brakes hard the car pulls to the left pretty hard. In addition whenever I'm at a rolling speed and gently apply the brakes the squeek:mad: I assume it's time some replacement brakes. I don't take my car to the track, but I do occasionally have some runs of 100+ mph with hard braking down to around 60 mph or so. I want to improve the appearance of the brakes so I was thinking of putting in some cross drilled or slotted rotors along with some good ceramic pads. What are your thoughts on the best way to go? I thought about putting some Brembo rotors and pads, but I've heard they still squeek. Also, am I better off going with slotted rotors because I've heard they hold up better over time, even though I think the crossed drilled ones look better. I'm thinking about faking true big brake Brembo's with a decal from this site www.xenonmods.com but I'm affraid that the decal will melt. Any input will help. Thanks!

If the car is pulling to the left it's possible that the right caliper or slide pins are frozen.

I recomend Hawk HPS pads and slotted rotors for appearance. I don't recomend drilled rotors as even the best of them will crack eventually. It's typical for performance pads to be a bit noisier than OEM type pads.

I have decals on my calipers and they have not melted.

my brother and I have this decals from xenonmods.com and they don't melt!

like Re said, look at your slide pins.... a very common problem....

in my opinion the LS1 brake is very good for the the car. I life in Germany and we can drive every day 100MPH+ on the Autobahn...... no problem with the stock LS1 brake and Raybestos pads..

but still I'm looking to improve my brake - maybe with C5 rotors (Reiner :-) )
