NYC32798 08-19-2006, 03:18 AM I know the title of this forum is track kill stories but I was a bit disappointed with my times today even though it was my first time. My best was a 14.41 with a reaction time of .056 on street tires. I have an A4 with a moroso CAI, edelbrock cat-back, TB bypass, and hypercrap programmer. But then again I think there were couple things that factored in. First off I had problems keeping traction in 1st gear. I put on a nice smoke show and heated the tires up pretty good but that didn't seem to help much. I have cooper cobra tires and I personally think they suck all around as far as traction goes but the tread wear is great. Secondly, it was another typical hot as hell and humid florida day so that probably hurt it also. At the end I didn't feel as bad when I saw that I got a better time then a new GTO and charger. They ended up getting a 14.5 and 14.6. Either they couldn't drive for s*** or they had traction problems like I did. But before the day was over I saw something pretty sad happen. A 98-02 SS z28 pulled up to the line. Didn't sound stock at all. He got about 1/4 of the way down the track when his ass end kicked out sideways and went nose first into the guard rail. It went about half way over the rail, slid on the rail for a few seconds, slid off the rail then tipped over on its side and started going down the track on its passenger side until it finally came down and ran the front bumper cover over. It was sad to watch.
03EBZ06 08-19-2006, 08:00 AM Yeah, heat will kill car's performance. I was running 11.9@119 with street redials in April and now with the heat and humidity, best I could run is 12.2@116, in N/A trim.
The reaction time only matters in bracket racing so more important number you should post up is your 60' time, that will tell lot about your traction issues.
Anyways, keep practicing the launch and you'll improve your time.
camzaro28 08-19-2006, 08:25 AM what track in FL was this at?
and basically any street tire at the track is going to suck ass. invest in some drag radials or see if u can borrow a friends.
can u post ur entire slip?

Mikie 08-21-2006, 02:18 PM Please give a little more info...
What type car do you own.. (year etc)
Thanks
Mike
NYC32798 08-21-2006, 03:15 PM Oh sorry. It's a 95 z28 with an A4 and 3.23 rear. The mods are listed in the first post.
Razor_Blade 08-21-2006, 04:22 PM You might give it a try without the Hypertech. I watched a 01 Mustang pick up .5 by taking it off. Just clean the tires off a little. Heating up street tires does nothing for you. They seem to get more slippery after a huge burnout.
CANTONRACER 08-21-2006, 04:34 PM Well, congrats on going to the track...you just actually found out what your car ran. Now you do something about it.
You are going to meet a lot of people that yap about how fast their cars are..and yet, most have never touched the track...so when you get yours worked out and start running 13's(or faster) you will start mud stomping all those supposed 13 second cars(and faster) that never have been to the track.
The bull**** stops when you go to the track.
NYC32798 08-21-2006, 05:42 PM I was expecting to get at least a 14.2 but oh well. It may have gotten close to that if I didn't have the traction problems. That just gave me an excuse to throw in a cam and some LT's along with some drag radials. Also, does my 60' time show that I had traction issues?

Its not a great 60' but its not terrible. There are alot of variables that can determine how your car runs. Cars will often vary .2 - .3 seconds just in one day. dont be discouraged, keep on practicing and you will get better. Ill be down to earth with you and wont say "my first time at the track i did this and that cuz im the best driver blah blah". my first time at the track (after i owned my car for a couple weeks) i ran a 15.4 @97 with a 2.6 60' . Ive had about 15 runs down the track (havent gone this year) and took over a second off my et plus a couple mph of my trap.
Mikie 08-21-2006, 06:51 PM Oh sorry. It's a 95 z28 with an A4 and 3.23 rear. The mods are listed in the first post.
Good deal.
You can definately get her into the 13s with your mods. Practice is all you need. Anyway... not a bad first timer though.
NYC32798 08-21-2006, 07:53 PM Thanks for the info. I guess i'll head back to the track next week and see what happens.
JakeRobb 08-21-2006, 08:22 PM You should be able to get a consistent 2.0 60' on a decent street tire, once you learn how to launch your car. On a really good day, you might even get a 1.9.
On street tires, burnouts are pointless, unless the tires are dirty, in which case, a quick spin to clean them off is all you need. The rubber is not designed to get sticky when you heat it, and in fact, it gets slimy and reduces available traction.
Antz97ZNJ 08-21-2006, 08:32 PM heat will get to a Lt1...good runs
Try2CatchMike 08-21-2006, 10:57 PM Hey you should be happy with your runs! I was out at biltho a few weeks ago and ran a 14.4 in my 99 Auto 2.73 Z28, talk about disappointed
NYC32798 08-22-2006, 12:09 AM I heard that the bithlo track sucks. My teacher is also from up north and he told me when I move back up to NY next year to go to english town in NJ. He said it's a MUCH better track. I think the heat here also sucks. Like I said in my first post, I even got a better time than a new gto and charger. I heard a lot of tires spinning that night. Plus a guy in a ls1 camaro spun out and slammed into the guard rail. As far as weather goes it can't help when you when your running in 90 degree weather with close to 100% humidity. Hopefully my times drop when it starts to cool off and the humidity goes away. I'm probably gonna upgrade my tires too. These cooper cobras suck. I have a hell of a time keeping traction out on the street. Forget about flooring 1st gear. I even have trouble sometimes keeping them from spinning in 2nd.
CamaroRacing12 08-22-2006, 12:39 AM yea it sounds like this track blows ballz....i havent taken my baby tot he strip yet...but just from reading it seems like the track sucked and the weather blew...at a better track and better weather i bet u could hit high 13's easily.... good luck man..... and was that SS driver ok? i hope so! if not hes ina ll our prayers.....fellow Fbody Owner/driver
NYC32798 08-22-2006, 01:05 AM Yeah I think the guy in the SS was fine. He got out of the car and looked fine. He steered the car while it was being towed off the track.
camzaro28 08-22-2006, 07:07 PM NYC and others that are planning on going back to OSW. what do u guys think about going in say 2 weeks?
if i fix the issues with my car this saturday ( fuel pump) i sohuld be ready to go anytime after and would prefer to go on a wednesday night, much less people.
just let me know.
p.s. my 13.0@104 was at bithlo. but it was during february, so weather was perfect.
like any other track, they are not made for street tires. if u dont bring some kind of slick tire, be prepared not to hook.
NYC32798 08-22-2006, 07:47 PM I'l probably go again in a couple weeks. It depends on if my girlfriend has off or not. She uses the camaro as a commute car to work. She can't drive my maxima cause it's stick. She's scared to death of flooring the camaro so it gets babied when I don't have it. But if she's off that night, i'm down to go.
LoudmouthSS 08-22-2006, 11:40 PM ah orlando spin world...the track sucks man ( i got there too)
they stopped prepping the thing bc of all the dumbasses trailing water up to the staging lights..
not bad times though, just need some traction..easy 13's
im sure ill catch you there eventually:thumb:
I went up a couple of fridays ago..hot as hell and on top of that i had overheating issues and a throttle body mount filter...went 14.2 @ 100mph with the gf in the car..heats hurting everyone right now..
