IROC questions

It it does like I'm going to try to get a IROC. Which brings up a problem. It is in perfect shape and and low low miles on it, but there is something about having raw fuel in 2 of the cylinders. From what I've head there is tons of things that can cause that. And when the current owner took it to a shop the mechanic said that the car needed a new engine and that it would cost around 3 grand (it is an l98 5.7TPI ) and if infact the car does need a motor I could get it for around 3 grand if it is repariable or the current owner gets a new motor (highly unlikely) then it would run around 6 grand. Also would a rebuild be a wise thing to do with this car? It just seems weird for it to have severe engine problems with the miles that are on it. Thanks in advance for help with my ongoing problems lol.

The best advice I could give you, is to take the car to your own mechanic. Or one that you trust. and have him check it out. It could be something very minor.

Raw fuel in the cyl to me means leaky injector or excessive fuel pressure. Could be that it needs no more than that. Take it for a "test drive" to a shop (or 3) and see what they say. I doubt it'll need a new motor, the other mechanic might've just been tryin to rip the guy off.

Yeah thats what I have been hoping. But the problem is-- the car is in Pheonix, AZ and I live in northern Utah. If you are wondering why I am even looking at a car so far away, it is my Grandmothers car and she has had it since it was new in '89. I told her a while back that if she ever sold it, to call me first. So when problems poped up she took it into a shop and she was told to get a new engine. But what kind impression on a mechanic does a old woman coming into a shop with car problems. And it has low low miles on it so that makes the chance for serious problems even less you would think. Another problem is if I get this car I want to keep it in the good shape it is in and not modify and race it where it is a rare car. But I also want a car I can modify and I dont think my berlinetta is up to it and I also have access to a '84 Z28 that has a 350 droped in it--but needs a clutch for at most 2 grand and this IROC with potential problems will run at least 3 grand. And to sum it all up im 17 and insurance on 2 Camaros is a nasty thought I dunno maybe I just want to baby this IROC too much and I almost dont trust myself with such a nice car anyways enough babbeling--HELP Someone try to set me on the right track here.... thanks......

Go visit G'ma and borrow the car for a while. Since she's family, I'm sure she won't mind letting you get a second or third opinion.

If you do have to get a new engine, check out Scoggin-Dickey's 350 TPI crate motor...357HP/417 ft-lbs TQ...WOW!!
