acura TL type-s
Re: acura TL type-s
I agree - I don't like the wheels. And the old TL-S has 35 more hp than the regular TL at the time. This time it's only 28 more hp and actually only 16 more hp if you compare it to the old rating.
Re: acura TL type-s
Its interesting that Honda chose to increase displacement this time around. The previous Type S' had the same displacement as the regular TL's and CL's (3.2L) but had a higher compression ratio, variable intake manifold, and free flowing exhaust.
Of all the sport sedan's I've driven, the 2004+ TL feels the most like a FWD BMW. The suspension and steering give you great feedback and inspire lots of confidence. I can't wait to see how the new Type S improves on that.

To best honest the A4 is by far and large closest to the 3-series. With, to me, the IS coming in next, and the TL coming in last.
Don't get me wrong I LOVE the Acura TL - even wanted to get one before my dealer tried to rape me on lease rates and I decided to go with the A4 because it was cheaper (I'd still rather be in a TL). The suspension is good, but it's definitely more comfort-tuned than the 3-series and A4 and about as comfortable as the base IS suspension IMO but not quite the steering and handling.
Just my .02

And there's plenty of appreciable differences between them to justify the 5 grand, or more IMO.

The old TL-S had most of its gain at the top end, whereas the new one will have more power across the range. Though that just means yet more wheelspin and torque steer . . . .
Does a 286hp/258tq 3500lb FWD car with a sporting emphasis appeal to very many people? Or does it just sell because it's an Acura?
I suppose the GM FWD 5.3l cars are in about the same boat, having a bit more hp and quite a bit more tq at about 200 pounds more. So the answers appear to be "yes and no".

And it's a entry level sport luxury car. Comparing it to the Impala SS is kinda silly as it's a way more luxury oriented car inside. Compare it to the CTS if you want - or say it's an invalid comparison because of the different drive wheels, but again, I challenge you to find many people in the real world that actually give a damn.

What about the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP? Or perhaps the Saab 9-3 with the 2.8 V6 turbo? Or maybe a top-of-the-line Saturn Aura?
If it's that easy to please people, should Cadillac be gussying up an Aura the same way that Honda has gussied up the Accord? You could give an Aura a $5K interior upgrade and make a lot more profit than with the CTS. If people would buy it.
I can understand the Lexus ES, because it's all about quiet, refinement, smoothness, etc. If you care about those things, then you probably don't care about RWD. But the TL-S is supposed to be their top sport sedan (RL is more luxury). Now if I believe what you say, people spending close to $40K on a *sport* sedan don't care about RWD (or at least most don't). I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm saying, "explain that to me".
