Do you want to be seen in your Camaro?

Do you NEED to be seen in your Camaro? After I got over the knee jerk reaction, I came to the reality that I am that vein and do want to be seen at time in the car from time to time. Id love to cruise around with all 4 windows down. At the same time however if I can work out a base V8 car, the first thing Im doing is 20% tint. In the summer I have the AC and windows up and in the winter I have the heat and windows up. What I do want is a car to turn heads and be associated with that car. Just as bad as I want to be proud of owning the car myself, I want someone to want to walk around the car and tell me what they like about it whether I was in it or not, the way my 69 did. I want a rolling peice of Automotive art.

So, thats me, which describes you better?

I shouldnt have put regaurdless of whether they know its yours in the second choice because thats not what I meant but I was trying to differentiate them. What I meant was they knew it was yours but you didnt have to be in it...

If you had a "I don't give a hoot what others think, I drive it because I like it", that's what I would have voted for.

Basically what I was trying to ask is, do you care about looks? If no the the trash truck that looks like hell but corners like a Vette is your option, if you do care about looks, do you have to be sitting in the car? If you want people to see you driving this beautiful machine around your option is clearly the 1st, If youre happy standing outside the car just admiring it by yourself or with others I would think you would pick the second choice. I was trying to keep it simple.

I don't really understand the purpose of this thread.

Why would you buy a any new car including a Camaro if you don't want to be seen in it???

If gas prices got to a point where I had to buy something along the lines of an Aveo... I wouldn't want to be seen in it. (Eh, who am I kidding... I'd walk :D )

What about just buying a new car because you want something no one has torn up and has a new factory warranty

I'll probably be getting a Malibu MAXX in the next few weeks and could really care less if I'm seen in it... I'd rather be noticed driving a supercharged Regal (not that anyone ever notices :p) than the MAXX.

LOL Yeah, I sometimes think 'please don't look over at me, please don't look over at me...' when sitting next to someone in a nice car.

A few years ago I had to drive my friends 1989 Chevy Celebrity with horribly flaking/missing paint down the hood/roof/trunklid. And I'd slink down into the seat when I was sitting at a light. But it was a good car for the year he had it considering he only paid $400.

Well Scott mentioned several times that one of the criteria for Camaro has to be that Camaro owners NEED to be seen in the Camaro rather than want to. I keep getting images of the Pope mobile or something along those lines. I guess it explains the want for T-Tops. I always took what he meant you need other people need to see you in the car rather than if you dont mind.

I would definately like to be seen in a cool car like that so I guess Im part of what hes talking about. I definately want the car to turn heads, but at the same time I dont mind if Im not in it when it does. I want people to know I own it, but am perfectly happy showing off my car walking around it wherever I am. Id want to tint the side windows, and you wouldnt be able to see in unless I rolled them down. I am a little surprised at the results but if I worded this thing even halfway decent which Im not sure I have, I guess I proved Scott right.

Its something Ive wanted to ask for a while.

I'm fairly vain as well, I'd love for people to see me in the car and then wish it was them. (if they're hot, they could take a ride in the passenger seat...and then the back seat) But moreover, I want the car because I think it's badass.

I chose the first option. I like my Camaro, like being seen in it, and like having people know that it's mine.

This is a strangely-worded poll.

I have to go with the trash truck on this one. Unless its got a prancing horse or a bull in the emblem, you only got about 9 to 12 months before that "hey look at me" effect wears off. I don't even look twice now when I see a Mustang Gt or even a Solstice. It's whats under the hood and in your heart that counts.

When my wife and I started dating she was driving a 2002 Echo... well, my car starts having problems and I have to take it to the shop... so what do I get to drive for a couple of days??? :o

I drove to work and there were like 6-7 people outside smoking... I did everything I could to drive around them without being seen, didn't work. :shame:

Wow. You must really be concerned with what kind of car people see you in. You never think maybe some people associate Firebirds with negative stereotypes?

Until I got on this website, I'd never seen/heard the silly 'mullet-mobile' stereotype. I've never heard any negative stereotypes regarding the Camaro, Firebird or Mustang. Aside from them being seen as young guy cars. Or dangerous vehicles. But nothing like I see suggested here, and a few other places online. I think these stereotypes are less widespread than some on here think.

I never suggested that they may be associating the car with mullet mobile stereotype, because like yourself, I have never come across a person in real life that has suggested that about an fbody or Mustang. However, I was alluding more to the dangerous driver in a dangerous car stereotype. I have heard that one before, and probably will hear it again.

I agree. Maybe it existed back in the '80's but at least around here its not the case at all.

Me personally, I'm more along the lines of "I'd drive a dump truck if it was fast and handled well". Looks are great but if a car has power and can be tossed around and hold its own then it works for me :thumb:

I screwed up the wording.

It should have read "Do you "NEED" to be seen in your Camaro?"

I think Camaro (or Mustang) will never lose the 'dangerous car' stigma. People that buy them ARE more likely to drive less conservatively than someone who bought a sedan or minivan. They also tend to be a younger audience, hence less experienced and more prone to dangerous driving.

Even if the car itself isn't overly dangerous, the acts of those driving it will give it that reputation.

Not the same as the mullet thing to me though when it comes to calling it a 'stereotype'. LOL
