Insulating Header Wraps (sorry if in wrong forum)

was thinking about picking these insulating header wraps up. Was wondering if anyone has used them and if you have noticed any difference.

The description from the Moroso Insulating Wraps says it "reduce underhood temperatures while producing more horsepower". Anyone actually notice or achieve any horsepower gain?

Im guessing the right way to wrap this is to have the wrap go half way over each other?

unless you have repetitive issues with melting plug wires on certain cars. they also make spark plug wire sleeves for that too

We use then on roundy rounders, but it tends to hold moisture in and rust the pipes sooner. FWIW

Oil leaking over time on the header wrap creates a fire hazard; Tom Byrne had a car burn to the ground this way :eek:

Just curious.... how could header wrap running at 1,100degF "hold moisture"? :)

Wrapped headers don't rust because of "moisture".... they rust because the wrap keeps the tube metal so hot the iron in the steel starts to oxidize = "rust". That's the problem with header wrap, it keeps the metal so hot that it loses its strength, embrittles and starts to oxidize and crack. That's not a big problem on a race car that has relatively easy header replacement, and where many parts are looked at as "consumables". But its a bit of a problem for a street car.
