According to DCX, the production Challenger will look identical to the concept. You won't be able to tell the difference according to Chrysler VP and lead designer Tom Tremont. The interior will get reworked. Also a rumor that DCX is working on a 6.6L option for the Challenger.

I've always suspected that the concept was more of a pre-production ready to go version.

 

Redesigned bumper (height?) up front, different headlights, revised interior with more legible guages, seats sourced from the Viper, and new version of the SRT-8 engine.

The sheetmetal will carry over intact, the full width tail light (including the high liftover height) will carry over, and the rim & tire sizes won't be too far off of the concept.

The car was a concept in every way. However, Chrysler (under DCX) no longer does concepts that can't be made production ready fairly easily.

If you want a hint as to how close the Challenger will be to the production model, check out the Magnum SRT concept from a few years ago. At 1st blush you can't tell the difference between the concept and the production model. However, when you take a closer look at the body seams, lighting, and take a really close look at the details in the plastics, including the bumper and some interior parts, you'll see the differences. Also, even though the engine is different (the concept used a supercharged 5.7), it still put out similar horses to the production SRT built 6.1 hemi.

Like the Magnum, the Challenger was already well along when shown. Like Lutz is now doing with GM, auto show reaction and input has been taking the place of focus groups at Chrysler.

 

Ah, so the 6.6L rumor has some legs...sweeet! Hmm, 500HP?

 

I don't know the size, and it's probally at least a year before final power figures, and as far as I know, it might even have a blower on it. But yes, Chrysler is most certainly, most definately, 100% for sure, working on a far more powerful version of the current SRT hemi V8.

Supposed to outpower the current Shelby GT500.

As I've said many times, things are going to get REALLY intresting on the performance front before decade's end.

 

I've heard the rocker panels will not be as "tucked in" as they are on the concept....meaning it'll look more portly than it already does.

 

When can we expect Camaro releases like this???

Thats good news. Everyone liked the car as is. My money is on the Challenger getting 20" rims standard.

So it will be 6.1L standard with a 6.6L down the road. MDS on the 6.1L? Any chance for a 5.7L w/ automatic I wonder?

 

I love the looks of the new Challenger, but I don't really like the one piece rear brake light going all the way across. I think it would look better separated somehow.

 

That's funny. The only thing on the Challenger that I liked was the full width taillight.

Can't wait to start seeing these pop up on the streets, it will be interesting to see what they plan to do with the Hemi motor.

Who cares about the weight? I don't, unless I'm going to dragrace it everyday. The car will be very nice. The new Camaro will also weigh in at around 3800lbs. So get use to it.

 

I do. I would also hope you aren't going to drive it everyday either. A 6.1L pulling 4300 pounds at what will probably be about $4.00 a gallon wont be very nice. Get used to that.
